Need some help guys!

I was resizing some 6.5 JDJ cases and had a case break off at the neck shoulder junction in the die. The cases were properly lubed so I am assuming that this case had a fracture line that I missed during case inspection. First time I have ever seen this happen!

I disassembeled the RCBS FL die and have carefully tried to tap out the remaining case. No Luck. I don't want to scratch or damage the die.

Any ideas?

I think you're sending the die back in for removal, if you want my honest opinion. The stuck case removal kits generally require some part of the case head to either tap against or thread into, and in your case, all you have in there is the shoulder and neck. I am sure RCBS will fix it for you for a small fee. Might take a while, though.

You are correct! I have a stuck case removal kit. It is used to remove the entire case because the shell holder has pulled away part of the rim. Usually caused by lack of case lube.

This is a different situation and I agree with you that I will have to send the die back to RCBS. I was hoping that someone had a good idea that would save me the time.

Hey, that is a real pain in the rear! But, I had it happen with a 7mm Wby Mag case a few years back. I gave the die to my dad's buddy who is a machinist and he got the case neck out. How, I do not know.

One quick fix you might try before you send it to RCBS is to freeze the die and see if the neck will come out then. The brass will retract a little when frozen. Might work, might not, I don't know.

Good luck, RF

You know, freezing and heating might do the trick. Also, try some penetrating lube, and then maybe you can get it out with a punch of the right diameter, if you have one.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I think my best option is to send it back to RCBS.
I will call RCBS on Monday and get the scoop.

I called RCBS and they told me that this is covered under warrenty. If I return the die with $5.00 for S&H, they will remove the stuck/broken case and replace the deprimer assby. They will also polish up the inside of the die.
Sounds almost too good to be true.

RCBS customer service is legendary. They usually bail out lots of us from stupid mistakes or bad luck, usually at no charge. Believe me, they will take care of your problem, even if they have to send you back a new die.
I recently called them with a problem with the decapping pin in my .223 neck sizing die. I had purchased some new brass from Guatemala, and it arrived with undersized flash holes and the standard decapping pin kept getting stuck. I emailed them, explained the problem and offered to purchase some thinner decapping pins, if they had any available. They told me not to worry about it, and mailed me a .22 PPC decapping unit which works great, and didn't charge me a dime. All my future dies will be RCBS. And after reading some recent horror stories about scope customer service, I think I will have to bite the bullet and make all future scopes Leupolds.

I sent the die back to RCBS, they sent me a letter indicating they have the die and it will take up to 4 weeks to get it back.
Guess I'll just have to wait.
