Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

Ok, so the one I have pictured is the lead type you're using. They're actually not that bad priced. I may have to get a box and play with them. That's pretty good weight retention and a fat mushroom to go along with it. I like the looks if it a lot! Thanks for the info.

That's 90% weight retention, cant beat that especially with the mushroom. What's the minimum impact velocity on them to open up, any idea?

Yup, I am going to get some of the 7mm 160s for my 280 and 7-300 mag, and the 140s for the wife's 7/08. You cant beat that kind of bullet performance for the price.

This Sunday was a work day. Twelve hour shift, which means 13 or more for me so no reloading until today. Loaded up five sets of 5 rounds each powder charge of 7tcu with 120 grain vmax.

I’d give RL17 a shot in your 338. I believe you’ll get some speed out of it there.

I ran the 200 TTSX and Accubonds about 3100 in my Newton with RL17 and 2950 with the 225 Accubonds. 17 was accurate as well.

I may try 17 in the 338-06 but need more experience working with it... or a Quickload... for a starting charge. If I can get close to 2900 with accuracy with the 210s & 4350 I'll be happy. The little information that's out there is all over the place. I broke down & bought a 5#er of RL17. The speeds are better/gr. than the 1# can I had so am re-trying it in 30-06 & 22-250 Ackleys & the Norma. I got to 80 gr. of RL17 @ c.3000fps with 200 Hornadys in the Norma, but accuracy wasn't there. I may go a little higher, but... maybe the Accubonds will shoot better. Wish I had bought more of them.

With the 225 Sierras I'm at 2950 with an old lot of H4895, 2900 with an old lot of RL15, & the same load of RL 15 in the PPU brass is shooting 3 shot cloverleafs with always a 4th flyer out about 3/4" at about 60 or 70 fps less than in the Norma brass so some increase may equal the H4895. The 225 Accubonds also like H4895 at c.2900fps with some room to increase.

My fired Norma cases hold just shy of 93 gr. of water full to the top. Thinking your Newton will be similar? The rifle is a rechambered 700 35 Whelen Classic with 22" barrel. There's a long Norma throat so the Accubonds may work better than some of the others that dont like so much jump.

They have worked well for us from the 130 and 140 in 270's and the 308 180 grains. Their TLR is real darned interesting as well. They make a 155 that's pretty danged sleek along with the 175 and 200's in the 30 calibers.

I wished they'd make a 175/180 for the 7mm. I'd be hard pressed not to use them in my 7 Mashbburn.

Where are you getting the trophy bonded tip bearclaws at? I'm not even seeing them for sale anywhere? So the one I'm looking at is copper, but the one you're talking about is lead? Correct? Hel, these federal bullets are new to me haha. But I do like the idea of a tipped bearclaw, why I'm trying to find them for reloading. I see them in factory loaded ammo, just not for reloading.
Grafs has Trophy Bonded Tips in 130 grain .277, and 140 grain .284 calibers.

Good luck 358, looking forward to seeing what the 338 does for you. That’s a neat darned cartridge.

I used RL26 in my old 35 Newton. Man oh man did it make some serious speed with 250 Partitions. That’s another I’ll be looking at when you fire it up.

Thanks SJB358, I shot the H4350/200 BT on 7-29, getting up to 64 gr. & 2941fps. When breaking 2900 the level of recoil got noticeably faster & sharper. It's brisk for sure. Gain is c.20-25fps per 1/2 gr. Accuracy was around 3/4" for 4 with the higher charges. I may go a wee bit further but it works splendidly where it is. Real good single digit SD & ES in teens with all loads.

Tried RL17 on 7-31 guesstimating a 59gr start load which gave 2740fps with the Speer 200s working up to 62gr & 2874fps still with no pressure sign. Today I went back to the CT 200 BTs with RL17 up to 63.5gr & 2967fps. Can go higher but case is close to full & accuracy is not nearly as good as the H4350 load. Gain is c. 25-30fps per 1/2 gr. Same single digit SD & teens to lows 20s ES all loads.

Temps for all the above was mid 80s. Cases were formed WW nickel 280 with WLRs.

My 22-250 & 30-06 Ackleys didn't care much for RL17 either. Decent speed, no pressure sign, but mediocre to poor accuracy. There's still some room to increase with all of these but not sure if it's worth wasting the components. Does 17 shoot better at higher pressures?

The 358 Norma results are coming soon. Some RL26/250s are loaded, but will also be trying some of those newer hyper velocity Whelen powders in the Norma. I'm about out of lighter recoiling t-shirt stuff to test for now, but did snag a new 25-06 700 LR. Break-in groups are promising.

.223 and 45 ACP, my hunting rifles are all ready to go, no need to mess with them anymore.

just killing time tonight, looking at what I have loaded for the 250. Got less than 50 rounds available  !!! Maybe by next sunday.... Actually, Ive got plenty of 7Mag and 6.5 JAP I could burn. CL

No reloading yet, it was range day. A perfect day. 80* & almost no wind. The 22-250 Ackley went along with a new lot of powder & new bullets. All the old stuff is gone & the new is different enough to need new development. Bummer... 4 of the 5 groups were close to 3/4". The 25-06 didn't like today's experiment with RL19 & cheap 100gr. PPU spitzers. Good speeds though. Max was found for RL26 & 140 Hornady SST blems in the 6.5 CM with the best group being .666". Finally dusted off my forgotten 300 H&H with RL26 & 180s. Good speed, marginal accuracy. Dinner's cooking & the rifle bores are soaking. Will probably pull the 140s & clean the carbon off outside of all the other case necks after dinner, maybe resize & prep the brass for a rainy tomorrow.

Didn't do a darn thing this weekend. Nicest days all summer and I sat around feeling sorry for myself. Good think I don't drink or I'd be getting loaded. This darn virus thing has got me scared to even go to the range when there's lots of activity.....and it was busy this weekend. Sorry wrong place for this... Just makes me mad now... CL
