superformance 117 SST Vs. Whitetails buck

I hunted with a buddy last week and he shot a buck with a 117Grain hornady SST from a 2506. I personally have not been a fan of this bullet in my 2506, but this one really performed well. This is the third buck he has taken with this combination this year and all have done well. This buck was shot a little farther back than he wanted and disappeared from view. He found the buck just out of sight about 20 yards from POI. The bullet entered midway between the front and rear leg and was found under the hide about middle of the ribcage.

Great performance on the SST. I have had good success with these bullets in other calibres. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in my 257 Bob though. Congratulations to your compadre on the deer. Looks to be a fine specimen.

Funny thing about my compadre's buck doc..
He actually got in trouble with the lease holder over that deer. We hunt a trophy hunting lease. It is his first year on the lease and he is still a little trigger happy.
He killed a really nice 10 point his first weekend up, and a pretty nice 8 point two days later. He said there were several bucks chasing a doe and he shot the wrong buck ( The one in the first picture).
Our lease holder has asked us to try to improve with each deer killed. That one was a large step backwards for him.

I wish the 117's my wife shot in her 25 looked that good. They were horrible.

I didn't think he could do it Dr. Mike. I was wrong. He left us in SC and went to his family's place in Ohio and smoked this monster with a bow..
He released the arrow, it clipped a limb and deflected up, passed thru the deers neck, cutting his juglar. I told him to let someone else hold the golden horseshoe for awhile.

Your friend has definitely had a fantastic year it seems. He should let you borrow that golden horseshoe now lol

270 SSTs n .30 cal SSTs , guess Hornady ment it when they
Said they designed that bullet for Deer!
