As we had a mini ice storm last night I was "unable" to even leave the house today. So I watched a "little" TV. In one show they were building a "custom" .458 Lott using a Model 70, 7 mm Remington Mag action. The loaded cartridge looked awfully long for that action.? I know the 458 is short enough, but the Lott?????? Just interested, it was a better program than the reruns of Judge Judy.

The standard magnums have a filler in the back of the mag box and you can buy a Wyatt mag box to make them even longer. Remember it's the same action for the RUM's.

The model 70 and the 700 rems (long actions) will handle 375 H&H mag length cartridges and the RUM family. I have had 6 458 lotts so Iknow them well. It is the full length 375 H&H parent case expanded to .458

George Samaras shot that Awesome Cape Buff in his signature with his Win model 70 in 470 Capstick. A 375 H&H necked up to 47 caliber.

You got me ! Which I know sounds really stupid, I looked for it before I posted but was unable to find it. I didn't select it, it came on after I deleted an Eastman's program I had taped. I will bet it was tied to one of the pawn shop programs that I have never watched.

Thanks guys, I had thought that was the case, but I knew the .458 WM , could be built on the 06 length action so I was mulling around in my head how that could be extended out to the Lott.

american gun….that show does a great disservice to gunsmiths everywhere. “too precise to headspace in a lathe so he does it by hand”, and then he test fires it without the stock because the stock is expensive and he didn’t want to risk it if there was something wrong, yet he holds it around the barrel with his hand over the cartridge section of the barrel. Since when are new hands less expensive than a synthetic stock.

All of these shows are staged, and scripted shows but that one is worse than most. I haven’t seen any of the wild west alaskan shows but I am good friends with a couple of the cast members and they fill me in on some of the filming shenanigans.

as to converting a long action to lott. its not much of a problem to convert most long actions to a lott. All you have to do is move back the bolt stop, open the ejection port and put an extended magazine on it.

"bear is right" it was American gun! Not a place where you want to take anything you value for repair.
