Ok I am thinking about this one. Anyone have one?
What are your loads? Performance? Accuracy?

Fibermark or Accumark?

Thanx!

POP,
Let me know if you " pull the trigger " and purchase one. I looked really hard at that round before purchasing the .300RUM. From what I could tell, they are too close to tell a difference so the next factor was cost.
We all know where that one goes.
I am very interested in the accuracy dept on that round.

Pop,

I LOVE my 30-378. Handloading was really difficult for this one though. I tried LOTS of different powder until Retumbo became available. Factory ammo was the only thing my rifle liked.

I'm now shooting 111gr of Retumbo topped with a 180gr AccuBond. It's a fantastic combination. The rifle is extremely accurate with this load.

Mine is an Accumark. It's a heavy gun, and not much fun to hike around with all day. However, with the muzzle brake it shoots like my 270 bee. Recoil is not an issue. As a matter of fact, I don't mind shooting it without the brake. BUT, the POA is different with the brake off.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Oh, a few other points.

Factory 180 BTs chronograph at 3400. My Retumbo load chronographs at 3450.

My hunting partner was also hunting with a 30-378 this year (using the factory load) and he shot a nice buck along with two does. The 30-378 is a heck of a lot of fun.

If I do get one I will report my findings. But need to sell my sako 75 rum first--can not believe I am selling that!

BTW check out this thread!

Pop,
Sell your Sako, you feeling ok? :?:
I too thought long and hard about buying a 30-378 before I wound up with my 300RUM. I think that unless you put a custom tube of 28" or longer, you are probably not much ahead of your 300RUM. I do think that if we are talking about 200 grain accubonds or 220 SMKS(I know, you dont like Sierra :p ) that might be a different subject, I know of one guy who gets almost 3300 out of a 200 grain Partition, but he uses a lilja 28" barrel (no brake!) and an a** load of retumbo!

POP,
IF you can really get 3500+ out of a 180 grain bullet, that might be sweet!
Me, If I bought a 30-378, I would get a Lilja 28-30" tube installed and shoot those 200+ grainers going real fast!
I had an accumark in the 338-378 and I was not impressed, but I probably got a lemon, my accumark in the 340wby is a very nice shooter.
Let us know which you decide to get 8)

I certainly think 3500+ is easily achieved! I'm at 3450 right now with 111gr of Retumbo. And it shoots great.

My goal in load development for this rifle was simply to reach factory velocity with better accuracy. I got that.

Going above 111grs should give you the 3500+ with little difficulty (Hodgdon says max is 113gr).

Packing the Accumark with my Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x50 was not a problem. I just like carrying the 270bee UltraLight better. And it can't be any worse than carrying your .416bee.

I would snap up your M75 300rum in a heartbeat!

Well the 300 rum is sold. I had a little interest in the 7 rum but no definates.

Now I have been a bad boy!

I bought the Ultralight 270 bee and someone made me an offer I could not refuse on an Accumark 30-378 with less than 40 rounds through her sooo I caved!
Should have her by next week.

Madman what is your accuracy like?

I'm able to get sub MOA right now. I was VERY happy with the accuracy during this past hunting season. Factory ammo shoots about 1-1.5MOA. All my previous handloads were +2MOA. Once we get thru winter, I may try to tweak my load, but it's probably not worth it :)

Cool, let me know if you find a Magic Load!
