I mentioned in a recent 788 post that I'd post some finished rifle pics. Here they are:

That's far to pretty to be a 788! :) What did you use for metal finish?

Are you sure that a M788?
That is the prettiest 788 I have ever seen! You did a great job.

Again, that is a nice rifle! Anybody can buy a 700 off the rack.... 8) . Just tell folks its a "custom job" you did. I'd take that over a standard 700 any day! CL

Thanks for all those kind words!! It was my wife's brother's rifle new. He died young, and Grandma gave it to my son. My son gave it to his sister. Then I had a hip redone, and decided that I had rehab time to fix the old rifle up. The kids wanted me to keep the factory stock, "just make it look better". Now the son wants it back. USMC trained daughter says "Just try"

Hand checkered with Dem-Bart tools, several different cutters. Pattern laid out by me. Metal finish is Duracoat mostly black. If I hadn't checkered a few others before, and also done some previous Duracoat, it wouldn't have been as well done. I think I achieved an acceptable skill level with both at just the right time with this one  Thanks again, and Semper Fi, Scotty.

Thanks again! We did take the 788 deer hunting in Nebraska after Christmas. I spent four days tutoring my daughter from my vast storehouse of experience, misinformation, and fatherly knowledge with no real luck. A kindly landowner had mercy on us and set us up on his place (this during the late antlerless season) and we explored it thoroughly, sighting deer but no shooting opportunities. We did put a late day stalk on one, but brush interfered and I think some adrenalin was pumping. In fading light at 250 yds. it stuck that white flag (middle finger? ) straight in the air and walked into the brush. So I had to come home yesterday and she went out this morning and pulled it off herself! This was her first deer or big game animal of any kind..

Congratulations to your daughter - it seems she learned well.

EE2, that rifle looks great and your daughter did awesome. She seems to like that rifle a bunch! Happy New Year to you all. Scotty

Hey, if I send you my 788, can you work your magic on it?

Just kidding. No really, I am just kidding. I think.
