The little 308 amazed me

I just ordered a Ruger Hawkeye 308 yesterday. Looking at your group makes me anxious the take delivery so I can get to work on a good hunt my load.

I had a Hawkeye Stainless 308. Was an excellent shooting rifle with just about everything I put through it. In a fit I sold it and it's one I wished I had back. Easy shooting rifle.

I think there is definitely something to the theory that shorter, stiffer barrels are more consistent.

My most consistently accurate rifle has an 18" barrel...in .308. It's soda straw thin, but fluted.

I've had excellent results with a couple others as well and saw a Remington XP100R in .35 Remington that shot groups so tight as to defy explanation.

I don't think a long barrel will make a rifle inaccurate, I do think it makes it harder to achieve on a consistent basis.

I owned a BLR in the 308 for many years and it was a handy little rifle. I know that they must be very accurate as many of the police forces use them as sniper rifles!!

Blessings,
Dan

Not sure what bullet you'll be running but RL-15 has worked well and obviously Varget does too.

Very close to my Rem 600. I never got groups that nice, but did manage to get sub 3/4" out of it. That little rifle has taken a pick-up bed of whitetails from 10-200 yds and most kinda sorta just...uhhhh... died right there ! My biggest buck to date fell to that moderate volocity rifle. Hunt with confidence.
