Well, I went down to Jim Gruning shop last Saturday to dropped the components for my new build. I will have Jim build me a 6.5X47 Lapua on a blueprinted model 700 short action mated to an 8 twist Krieger, chambered and throated for the 140 grain Berger Match VLD. The barreled action will be mounted on an altered Accuracy International chassis to accept the thicker Tubb's lug and Arnold Jewell trigger. I'll have Jim install his proprietory Picatinny style base, his patented 30 or 35MM steel ring, depending on my choice of optic. I'm mulling between a Nightforce 5.5X22X56 NXS or the Vortex Razor 5X20X50 EBR1 MOA. The rifle will be use for either 600 or 1000 yards shoot. Time to gather component and start load research and development :) :)

It all sounds good, Rommel. I'm tremendously impressed with the Vortex Razor. I opted to buy a PS for my last scope, but only because I was also springing for a VX6 at the same time. Otherwise, I'd have the Razor in my possession at this time. It is some impressive glass, that's for sure. The cartridge you've chosen to chamber is a most interesting one. I'll be very interested to see what she does when you begin to wring her out.

Sounds like that will be a cool rig! I wish I had a 'smith reasonably close who I could trust with this sort of work. I really like your 'race guns'.

On second thought, maybe it's a good thing I don't have a good 'smith handy... that could get expensive! :)

Well Rommel,

After reading this, we will be paitenty waiting along with you to get it back and read the next installment in this thread. Great package!!

BK, your just down the street from me  (200 miles is just down the street for us Southern Cal folks). I can hook you up if you decide.

I told my smith that I will be bugging him constantly until he finish the build. He had just completed a contract to build 15 Sniper rifles for Reverside, California PD.

Excellent! Should be a real winner. Jim's rifles perform!

For those who don't know - Jim Gruning is a very highly respected builder of precision/tactical rifles for military and police. He also builds rifles for those who want them for things like competition shooting or hunting:

I don't know Jim, but I've seen his work, and it's very good.

DrMike, I'm leaning towards Vortex Razor also. Feature by feature, the Razor wins hands down against an NXS or any scopes on that price range.

Guy, funny I had mentioned your name to Jim and he thinks he knows you. He told me that you had enquire about a rifle build at one time through one of his friend.

Yes, I was going to have Jim build a bolt action rifle for our SWAT team, but we ran out of money. Again.

Sadly, had to settle for a factory built Rem 700 LTR. Nice little rifle, and it's working out well, but not what I wanted to supply the guys.

Mark A. was the fellow who brought Jim's work to my attention a few years ago. Haven't heard from Mark in a while, hope all is well with him. We shot a match or two together some years back.

Mark Archuleta run our club monthly Precision Rifle shoot. I haven't been to one of his matches yet although he asked me to participate a couple of times, I never did.

Well, if you bump into Mark, tell him Howdy from Guy in Wenatchee. He was a real nice fellow and a good shot too!

DF

Congratulations on the new build.
Looking forward to seeing pictures when you get her home.

Well, you know how it is JD. It's just like waiting for the birth of your new child.

Man DF that would be a nice LR rig. My buddy is doing the same thing more or less. He is having Bobby Hart built it for him.

Maybe I missed it, but what contour are you going to run on you Kreiger?

Thank you Fotis. It's sure is. We'll see. I hope the wait won't be long.

It will be an MTU contour like my 308. The difference is the 6.5 will have a muzzle brake. The two rifle will be almost identical.

My only complaint on the Razor is weight. It will be ideal on that rifle, though it is a bit heavy for most hunting rigs. They are clear, though. Vortex hit a home run with that scope in terms of quality. They are exceptionally clear and very well-built.
