Walked into the High Mountain Hunting this morning, looking to make a deal on some kind of longish-range mule deer, elk & black bear rifle. Started wandering around looking at new & used rifles... Suddenly I saw it... My old rifle!

I've been quietly kicking myself ever since I sold it about a year and a half ago, and jumped at the opportunity to get it back. It's a Win 70 Coyote, in .300 WSM, with a Badger 20 MOA base and a Jewell trigger. In the past I shot decent 1.5" groups at 300 yards with it, from a bipod. A little heavy for lots of walking, I have however backpacked in with it once for a mule deer hunt in the Pasayten Wilderness here in Washington.

Feels really good to get it back... Not often that such a thing happens. The guy I sold it to works there at the shop, he said that his son put a box of 20 rounds through it, and that's all in the past 18 months, I believe 'em - and anyway - am kind of looking forward to seeing a new Krieger on it someday anyway...

Heck I've still got ammo, components and the dies. Thinking some 165 - 200 gr Accubonds will make good mule deer, elk and bear medicine...

Moral of the story - don't sell a good gun! If you do, get it back!

Guy,

Some things are just meant to be. Congratulations on getting your old rifle back.

Now, that is just too good to be true! Guy, that 300 belongs in your hands. It is like finding a long-lost friend when something like that happens, I should imagine. I would surely like to get back the Browning Eurobolt in 7mm RM one day. It would put ten rounds into less than 0.6 of an inch, and I let it go to buy a 300 WSM.

I always wish I would have picked up a few of those M70 Coyotes... a .243 would have been a great rifle for hunting it's namesake.

Awesome rifle. Looks like a long range deer slayer! Glad you got it back. Scotty

What a find! My son has one in 7mm WSM, and in a weak moment I offered to checker it for him. About 5 Dem-Bart cutters later it came out really nice. Seems that whatever they use between laminations is tough stuff and hard enough to dull the cutters pretty fast.

He chose it because he's disabled and he figured Dad could pack it  He's got a special rest for it, and that thing is steady when he bears down.

Had time to get out to the range with it this afternoon. Put the same 4.5-14x Leupold as pictured back on it and dialed it in, only at 100 yards, but that's good enough. The last three 190 gr Bergers I shot all went into one hole... I'm happy with that, but I still think I'll look into a high quality Nosler hunting bullet, likely an AccuBond for the long-range performance.

Another nice rifle Guy. Glad it came home! I almost bought the old 22 mag back from the guy I sold it to. Kinda glad I decided not to as the new Savage has been real promising during "break-in". However I hate the cheap plastice stock and do miss the "feel of the old Marlin. CL
Anyway, first love second time around,,,,should be good! CL

With the BC that the 168 E-Tip has, I would think it is worth a try as well.

I am glad you got this rare second chance!

Good points guys. It's very good to get this rifle back. I ended up swapping off my 7mm mag Number One to get it back - but that's no great loss. It was pretty, but doesn't shoot as good as this Model 70 and their duties overlap quite a bit.

Yeah, this rifle should have never left... Ah well, mistake corrected, and it's back. Looking forward to hunting with it again.
