Favourite 308-Based Cartridge?

I too own several 308 Babies. I wanted a 7-08 for a long time. Purchased some dies on a great deal a few years before I got the rifle. Ended up with a #1 A IN 7-08. Not my favorite model but that thing is a death ray on deer. I hunt with several rifles during season but that is usually the rifle I am carrying when it comes time to pull the trigger. Just recently started playing with the 243 and am loving it. Been wanting a 338 Federal for several years just haven’t found a rifle I wanted it in. May have to get a donor action and build it.

I'm not much of a non-magnum person but probably my favorite based on the 308 case is a 243AI. 3350+fps with 105's lights up rockchucks.

I originally came to this site to learn, and I continue to do so. I never knew so many different calibers!
I don’t know much about many of the cartridges mentioned here in this thread.
My first rifle is a 30-06. Because my brother has one as his main hunting rifle, its history is obvious, and I wanted something that I could take an Elk or a Moose with if the opportunity came up.
I have a model 94 because I always wanted one (Saturday morning westerns…), and I wanted a good Still hunting, carry all day rifle in the thick woods.
During the pandemic I was considering a 7-08, and probably would have gotten one except for the fact I couldn’t find and ammunition for it, so now I have a .308 Win. Which now has become my main hunting rifle.
I hunt whitetail deer with it and out to 300 yards is perfect for me.
So I’m going to say the .308 Winchester is my favorite .308 cartridge.
Don't really know whether my rimmed cartridges actually count, but I've owned two .307's and four .356's. I gave the two 307's to younger shooters. I gave BlkRam one of the 356. I've used the .356 to take moose, elk, mule deer, whitetail, black bear, and grizzly. Yeah, a Model 94 chambered in .356 is still a joy for me to carry.

1. 308 win-great options for factory ammo and rifles
2. 338 Federal-duplicates the performance of my favorite cartridge, the 8x57.
3. 7mm-08, Modern day 7x57
4. 243 win- despised this cartridge for years, for no particular reason.....after setting up my nieces with one and watching them harvest bear and deer with it, it changed my view on it and now own 2.

While a rare model, the Ruger No.1 was offered in the 338 Federal. Hope you can find one someday!
The original rifle offered in 338 Federal was the Sako, and they come up for sale every now and then too.

The Ruger was offered up with that little pencil barrel and just didn’t look right. I eyed it for a while just couldn’t get past the looks, if it had been a 1B I would have got it. Thought about having JES rebore my 77 RSI in 308 to 338 Federal.
