Okay, back from Wyoming. Various aches and pains dealt with. Feeling strong. Eating good antelope & mule deer steaks to gain strength!
This year, after nine years of trying, I finally drew a coveted late season mule deer tag here in Washington! Not my first choice area, but an area that I hunt regularly in the general (October) season. I'm very familiar with the area.
Now, I need you guys to get out and do your snow dance for me please...
The November rut will bring out the bucks, but snow... Snow will bring the Big Boys down out of the mountains! We have a significant mule deer migration here every fall, and I want a chance at a Big Boy from up in the mountains. These guys are magnificent. They can go 300 pounds, or more, and often have impressive antlers as well.
Right now it's temps in the 50's and lows in the 40's and has been rainy, though today looks like blue skies. So, give me a week or so (tag is good 1-20 Nov) and do the snow dance! Yes, focus that snow on Central Washington, in the Cascades!
I'll be camping up in the hills for a few days at a time throughout the season, rut usually peaks later in the season. We will see. Mama and I took the dog and the Jeep up there yesterday and spent some time scouting. Fun day. Dog had a great day chasing mud puddles and throwing himself into them...
Think Snow!
Thanks, Guy
