I've been thinking a lot lately of building a .250-3000. It has kind of taken over my bench at the moment. Right now I have two 1:14 twist .257 caliber SS barrels from Monatan Rifleman. Picked them up for a steal over Thanksgiving, one is contoured to a #2 24" long and the other is a 26" straight tube. Twist is a little slow but since I have a .25-06 already I don't need to use anything heavier than a 100 grain bullet for this rifle anyway.

So I have the barrels all I need is an action. Was thinking of picking up a Rem 700, M96 or commercial small ring. Then a couple of weeks ago I picked up a really nice M93 Turk action for a steal again. Guess I'm going to have to go ahead and start to put this rifle together.

Thinking of doing a silver gunkote on the action and barrel and putting it in a laminate stock. Hoping to make the dimensions about like a Ruger Compact. Should make for one handy truck gun for just about anything from vermin to deer. Think a nice 2-7 power scope would sit nicely atop the rifle as well.

I want to see to when you are done. Mine is an FN 300 action, Medium heavy contour barrel of unknown parentage, a home made stock and a VX-!! shes full bedded with an adjustable trigger. Just about perfect! 1:10 twist. 40 Grains of 4350 puts 3 75 Gr V-max's in one hole. 35 grains of 4064 and a 100 Gr BT wil do the same at just over 2800 fps. Too much fun!!

Will do CL, figured you would post on this topic. However it will be awhile before this rifle gets done. Got a wedding to pay for this year that will take priority to any gunsmithing work I can get done. However I will be doing some of the work myself to help keep the cost low. I'm sure I can streamline the trigger guard and remove the charging hump myself, as well as do most of the stock work. I've got a buddy who has a lathe and mill, but don't know if I'm ready to tackle a complete build myself yet.

Sounds like a great project. I believe the 250-3000 is a sweet little cartridge. It's one of those that should never ever go away. Kind of like the 6MM REMINGTON! Good luck with your build, and let us see photo's when you are finished......

That sounds like a neat project. I built a sporter for a friend on a turk action some years ago in 7X57mm. Gotta love those old warhorses. With the advances in modern bullets, you shouldn't need that faster twist to get it done with the .250. It would be fun though to build one up with a fast twist barrel and see what that round could do with a heavy, streamlined bullet seated to the full potential of that M93 or M98 magazine designed for longer cartridges. The savage rounds were far ahead of their time. The measurements of caliber, bullet diameter, length to shoulder angles are very close to the best match calibres today. Very efficient rounds.
