Just curious if any one has done this to Abs to get a longer OAL and fit in the mag box with out modifying the rifle. Also does it have an effect on accuracy of the bullet?

Those tips are glued in there. Not sure if filing them flat would do much. I've got a bunch of 200ABs I use for couple missing tips that I use in my 338 to foul the bore after cleaning. But they would open up quick.

The mag box mod isn't hard though and should only cost a few bucks to open it up.

In a .284 Winchester years ago I filed lead tips flat on some cup and core style bullets to be able to make magazine length in a Savage 99F rifle. That rifle was never a "one-hole" shooter so I didn't notice any appreciable difference in accuracy.

That being said we were plenty happy with 1.5"-2.5" groups at 100 yards. We were loading 160 grain bullets for elk hunting in mixed timber and that was plenty good enough accuracy.

Not sure how this would work with the plastic tipped bullets.

Share what you come up with!

The mag box mod will come after I find if lengthening my OAL brings my loads together. I'll only need to lengthen it .100" to get to where I want it to be

Don't worry about magazine length and not fitting at this point then just load them into the chamber for testing one at a time to see if they group better loaded out further or not. Like you said, then you can worry about getting the magazine box lengthened later. Leave the tips on and shoot away to see how they perform.

Thanks , That's what I want to do but not sure I can since it's a CRPF Winchester. The shell feeds up underneath the extractor from the bottom of the bolt just like the CRF.

You can stick them down in the mag with the tip up. It'll pick it up.

I also don't believe you'll have any trouble with the extractor popping over the rim. It's spring loaded and should work fine either way.
