We are fortunate that we live in a very rural area of NE Oregon. Costco is three hours away, two mountain passes either direction. (Boise or Tri Cities) Specialist medical care, same thing. We are however frequently trapped by winter weather. I 84 is closed going east all the way to the Oregon Idaho border. I 84 is closed going west over the Blue Mountains into Pendleton. It has also been closed since thursday from Hood River into Portland, not that I care about Portland. No way out going south, state hiways are closed. Possible to go north into the Wallowa Valley and then into Washington, but that is an interesting” drive in the summer, state doesn’t worry about closing it because it kinda closes itself.
Looks like we’ll have a nice quiet Christmas but I do feel sorry for all the truck traffic and folks traveling that got trapped in our little town. DOT thinks they’ll have made progress by mid morning getting the freeway open to Pendleton anyway.

Stay warm. Heavy snowfall here last even, but it did mean that the cold temps (-41C) have warmed (-21C). Travel advisories all around. At least no wind.

-21F below here in Northern Maine yesterday morning, no wind. -13F this morning no wind. However forecast is for -30F Friday nite with winds up to 30 kts. Sounds like wind chills 50/60 below Saturday.🥶
Fortunately we have lots of Rock Maple/ Beach ready for old wood stove!

Stay warm, E. A friendly glow from the fire can be a definite calming influence on those cold nights. (y)

We don't need or use our wood stove much here in Kentucky, as it rarely gets cold enough for long enough to justify the mess to fire it up and clean it out. However, when we do get it going there is nothing I like better than to stretch out on the couch nearby and just soak up that heat. I will skip going upstairs to bed and just spend the night on the couch. Toasty!!

E, when I owned a house with a fire place my favorite time was when I had a nice fire going in the fireplace sitting on the couch with my wife and glass of good quality Burbon to sip on while watching the flames dance on the burning wood. Black Locus was my favorite wood to burn and put out the most heat and burn for a long time without adding more to keep it going.

Catherine was raised in Kentucky, we only have Kentucky bourbon in the house. Regardless, sitting by the fire with a good woman and good dogs, it don't get much better.
Whereabouts in Kentucky? Lots of bourbon breweries around here.
