Thinking next year I want to put a new trigger in my Remington 700 300 RUM, would I be going wrong with the Timmey trigger? Is this something that a tinker can do or should a Smith do it?

Corey

I have put the Rifle Basix, Timney and Jewell triggers on my Rem 700s and a Howa. They all are just "drop in". I had to use a Dremmal tool to create more room in a 700 XHR stock for a Jewell but that wasn't to difficult. On the newer 700s you have to punch out one or two pins and if you are not comfortable doing that, a smith can install it pretty quick.

By the way ... all are nice triggers but I will be replacing the Rifle Basix on my Sendero 300RUM with a Jewell next spring also.

I've had a Timney and a Rifle Basix and both are nice triggers.

The Timney was a three position safety and I prefer that to the two position Rifle Basix but both are miles ahead of factory Remington triggers.

Thank for the replies. Teknys, can I ask why the Jewel over the Timmey since you have had them both? As for pins that is not a problem, I can handle pins.

I installed a Timney on my 700 ADL. Easy job and no problems cropped up. Its also easy to adjust if needed. Its a great trigger.

...I have a Jewel on my bench rifle, Jewels are, well, jewels, @ twice the price they ought to be, but on a rifle where your heartbeat matters, they're worth every penny. On the rifles most of us mortals shoot, the difference between a Timney & Jewel would be hard to appreciate...

Yup. I plan on putting a Jewell in my .204. All my sporters (well, the one that will get new triggers) will have Timneys, or more likely, Shilen. My 788 is definitely getting a Timney.

The Subjective answer would be "It feels that much nicer" i.e. When on a bench testing ammo and shooting from a sled.... the trigger "should" be all that is moving and what your concentrating on (at least for me). With the Timney and Rifle Basix, they don't feel as "CRISP" as the Jewell. The Sendero on the bench can shoot a one hole group if I'm doing it right but that gun is my long range toy and it's more in my head that I want a Jewell on it instead of the Rifle Basix.

Of the three I have the Timney on a Howa and I swear that the "creep" varies sometimes and I cycle it a few times and it's not there, but on occasion I think that it happened again. Maybe I'm too anal about it or just dreaming it.

i have some older shilens on some of my stuff but i dont like the trigger profile on the new ones so i put a jewel on the middlestead. the jewel is more money but worth the cost. is it over priced? perhaps but is there a trigger on the market that directly compares to it? i havent seen it. precision and consistancy is what you get with a jewel. i dont think you will hate yourself for spending the extra money once you use one.

Pretty much my thoughts as well !

My 300RUM Sendero has a Jewell and its a great trigger. I have a Timney in a Rem 700 ADL 270 and trigger jobs on a few more 700s. The Jewell blows them all away. I recently had a chance to try a Kepplinger on a 338 Lapua and really like the option of a 3 pound pull or 6oz! Just got one to try on the 243AI. Here's the link

I've only got a Jewell trigger on one rifle - and it is indeed a sweet trigger. No doubt.

Have Timney triggers on several rifles, current and in the past. Good trigger, usually quite an improvement over the factory trigger, and more than good enough for a typical hunting rifle.

I have 3 Remington 700's with Jewell triggers other rifles w/Timney that Jewell don't make triggers for and tried a Rifle Basix once that was so inconsistent that I replaced it with a Timney. Jewell is the best by far when they make it for your rifle, and they are all stainless steel. Here is the cheapest place I've found on the net and Larry is a very nice fellow to deal with.

Just watch the bolt stop spring, it will fly out and find a hiding place if you don't watch it.

Here is also pretty good instructions for replacing the 700 trigger.

I have one 700 with a Jewell and love it. My other 700's shoot fine with the original trigger. My Model 70 has a Basix, better than the factory but I don't think as good as the Jewell. They are pretty easy to install.

I am really thinking I need to find a really good smith who can make triggers sing, or just start putting Timneys or other good triggers in my rifles. I have a few M70 triggers that are stock and tuned, that I can't imagine could be better and some that could still use some help.. I think Brian has found a good one too... Looking forward to trying it out. Scotty
