Boise this morning, Cat and I on our way to Sitka for some Halibut fishing.
She goes through first, gets pulled aside, female agent checks, nope she left her pistol at home, always appendix carry and that is where they checked.
I go through, they send me back, I come through again, I look at the screen, alerts on ankle, chest and hip.
I get two agents. Good natured enough, pat me down, another going through my carry on. "Do you carry in an ankle holster?" Not since my back up went flying down the street in 92 said I. How about a shoulder holster? Seriously, ? Hip most of the time ? At this point I just smiled.
One said to the others, good to go no guns!

Reminds me of leaving Cedar Rapids airport with a box of Berger 156 grain bullets in my carry on. Of course I get stopped for a search, 3 agents show up with a sheriff. They ask what is in the box , I said bullets, oh you can’t have those, I said these are projectiles it’s not loaded ammunition. The 3 tsa agents throughly confused asked can we open the box? Yes I said and they opened it. 3 very confused looks all turned to me and asked what I did with them? I said I had loaded my own ammunition for hunting and target practice. Then they wanted to know how it was all done, mind you the sheriff is fully understanding what I am explaining. Finally the lead tsa agent asked me can these hurt someone, yup I said if you can throw the about 3k fps they tend to make a mess. The sheriff giggled and had had enough said, I have no problem with him carrying them on, they are fishing weights. I agreed and took my bag and went on my business. It showed me how shallow some people are and shunned away from what really goes on in the world.

I had the same issue coming back from an Elk Hunt in New Mexico. I was given a box of 180 grain Sierra BTSP's from the guide that assisted us with the hunt. I went through the check in at the airport and watched as my carry on bag went through X-ray. The little mexican fellow looked, looked again and then one more time before he called the supervisor and they pulled me aside. I couldn't touch my bag and the supervisor after putting rubber gloves on made me identify each article that he pulled out of my bag. When he got to the box of bullets he of course asked what they were. I explained bullets for reloading. I was told those can't go on the plane they are dangerous and can injure someone. I told him they were just bullets and harmless. Well the supervisor's supervisor came up to me and looked. She knew what they were and said have a good trip. The initial supervisor's face turned red and he walked away without saying a word. She just smiled and said my husband hunts and reloads. Nice to have someone with some knowledge.

I mean I totally understand if you have never experienced anything beyond the asphalt. It would similar if I was placed in the New York stock exchange. I promise that would be the first and last time that ever would happen.

The airport security staff should be better educated as to what they are looking for and why; and taught that a "bullet" and a "cartridge" are two different things, and that a bullet, in its component form is not a dangerous item.
They should also be taught that a cartridge by itself is not a dangerous item until it is fired in a firearm.
But I can also understand that it contains an "explosive", and is labelled as such for transportation purposes.

Bullets can mean loaded cartridges to non pedants. Like a revolver can be a pistol. A clip can be a magazine.

I won't say how I feel about TSA agents. This is, after all a family site.

Yup. Or border security. Even police, on occasion (at least here in Canada).
