Does anyone have any pet loads with varget they would like to share?

Have you looked at the Hodgdon site Rodger. They have decent data as well. If you have some fired cases I could run QL as well.

I'll have to weight some when I finish with the sale of the M99. I want to concentrate on that right now.
I have both Remington and Nosler brass. Remington is twiced fired and Nosler is once fired and some virgin.

Here is something to look at for awhile..

Cartridge : .35 Whelen
Bullet : .358, 200, Nosler AccuBond 54425
Useable Case Capaci: 61.701 grain H2O = 4.006 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.340 inch = 84.84 mm
Barrel Length : 22.0 inch = 558.8 mm
Powder : Hodgdon VARGET

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Scotty,

Varget looks to be a good powder for the 35 Whelen but not quite as fast as RL 15.

I visited the Hodgdon web site E - manual and ran the loads for the recommended powders for the 35 Whelen and noticed that the lighter bullet performed best with faster burning powders. With Hodgdon powders you would have to keep 3 different powders on hand to get the most out of the 35 Whelen according to their E - manual.

Or just settle on one do-it-all load and stock up for that load alone.

I like doing that with my hunting rifles. The rifle is always sighted-in, and I know exactly what to expect for trajectory & accuracy.

or you could just buy an 8 pounder of RL 15 and shoot everything in the Whelen.

Can't find any RL15 locally or I wouldn't be looking for alternatives. Hate paying hazmat shipping because of Gov. regs. which is a joke. D cell batteries and house hold chemicals is more dangerous than gun powder.
When I find some or a powder that works best I'll stock up on some and it will be my go to powder. I don't like to 20 different powders sitting around taking up space.

Good to have a plan B. Hopefully you will find some RL 15.

It does stink to pay hazmat. You might wanna call Clarke Bros in Warrenton Rodger. That is where I bought my last few lbs of RL15.
