i loaded up some 50 gr. bt , 55 gr. hp and some 55 blitzkings . 34 gr varget and they cases were filthy when i ejected them. it seemed to have alot of residue. cci large benchrest primers were used. just wondering if this is a common thing with this powder? 50 gr. held the best accuracy. any suggestions ?

I burn the same powder in my 250 and 308. Can't recall it being out of the ordinary on filth factor.

There might be the possibility that you're low in the pressure department.
When you are the case does not expand to fill the whole chamber hence unburned powder and soot escape the mouth of the case and sneak up on the outside.
What velocity are you getting?

i dont have a chronny, but its a rem with a hvy brl and a 26 in tube

According to Q/L you're running about 44K psi. Well below max. Hence your sooted cases.

so do i need more powder or hotter primers? cases were trimmed 20 tths under saami and coal length was 2.51

Pending on rifle you can add 2-3 grains more for the 50 grain Blitzking. Now remember as is your load is not hurting anything. Just dirties the brass. You should be running 3500 fps with the 34gr Varget/ 50 gr.

I shoot a M700 VLS 22-250. Avg MV is 3740 fps with no pressure signs and the cases are clean.

I load 32 grains behind a 55g.BT with the same primers you are using, and my cases don't look dirty.

Nosler's max load with Varget and 50 grain bullet is 36.0 grains, also shows it to be the most accurate. They do not have anything for the 55 grain bullet.

This load was taken out of the Sierra Manual....
NOTE: Nosler shows this over max I belive.
I can interchage the BlitzKings & B-Tips w/ the same POI
55gr flavor that is

i am using 50 btips from here on out. they just shoot better with the twist of 1 n 14

I do notice smoky necks when I load light for range use at 200 yds.
Best load does not smoke up necks : Speer 50gr. TNT (used because they are cheap in bulk and do perform well). 36gr of military surplus 852f (uses H380 data). Win. Std. Large Rifle primers. S&B cases. Shoots consistant 2" groups at 200 yards, when the wind is not up.
The 50gr. TNT bullets buck wind better than the lighter bullets that I was using and when I can connect on prairie dogs, the TNT acts as it is named. 55gr V-Max flies well and kills quickly but is more expensive than is the Speer TNT and the PDs do not notice any difference. I tried 55gr. FMJ bullets, pulled from Malaysian milsurp ammo and it flew well, but did not kill anywhere near as cleanly as do the frangible bullets.

In my Tikka T3 Lite .22-250 I use Win. brass, Fed. GM Match 210 primer & 36.0 gr. Varget pushing a 55 Hornady Vmax. This shoots a very tight 3 shot clover leaf at 100 yards consistently, almost the same hole. 55 Blitzkings are almost as good. I also discovered that I can shoot a 60 gr. NP 3 shot 1" group at 100 yards (without adjusting the sight) using 30.0 gr. Varget. Would be interesting to try on a pig under 200 yards.
