Well as the title says, I am looking at a weatherby vanguard in a 338 win mag. What is everyone's opinion on the rifle and caliber. I can also get a 300 weatherby for the same price. But I am looking at the 338 because of the bigger grain of bullets that I could get. Both guns have a 24 inch barrel. Thank you

If you only owned one rifle for North American game, you could do a whole lot worse than a 338 win mag. The Vanguard is a shooter, for certain.

The 338 Win Mag would also be my pick. Bullet weights from 180 to 250 grs will cover all hunting requirements in NA. Tough to beat.

You cannot beat the 338 and the Vanguards are pretty nice rifles also. I got a 7mm Mag earlier this year and it is an excellent shooter. Good luck with the 338. Scotty

Don't know much about the vanguard, but I love the .338 WM. It does everything the 300 can do, but has heavier bullets if you need/want them.
From what I have heard about the Vanguard they are pretty good rifles, I would own one if I was looking for a hunting rifle of some sort.

Can't say that I "like" the Vanguard. However, this is a style preference. I have shot quite a few of these rifles, and every one was a shooter. If performance is what you are looking for, you really could do a lot worse than to buy a Vanguard.

Well I have been calling around to alot of different sporting stores including cabelas there is billings and not a single store has the weatherby vanguard in the 338 win mag. So right now my luck is not going the best trying to get the 338 in the vanguard.

I think there is a WBY Sage Country for sale on BIVWAK in 338. I have one in 7mm Rem Mag and as all of the others, it is a shooter. I like the WBY Vanguards alot. Everyone I have seen seem to be tight, and pretty well fitted. Plus, they have adjustable triggers, which can be tuned pretty well. Scotty
