Hello all I'm getting married in July and the bride to be has been nice enough to get me a new gun as my wedding gift, How lucky am I. The problem I have is that I don't know what I want, my first thought was a Armalite 50BMG because I have always wanted one, I just don't know if it will get much use. I have several other ideas like a DPMS, or savage F class, or a cooper, just not sure. What I would like to know is if someone were to buy you a rifle what would your choices be. My budget is about $2800 for this gift.

Look at the top of the web page! It even comes with a scope! and you would have $300.00 for ammo !
Oh, and congratulations on acquireing an understanding wife to be!

Sounds like real good advice. I would be mighty happy with that rifle if I could get it in a caliber I wanted.

Long

JMUPT..................Before anyone can advise you how best to spend that $2800 for a rifle, explain how you plan to use it. A hunting rifle? What kind of game? In what terrain? A target only rifle with no hunting? A varmit rifle only?.............Fill us in!

Welcome to the forum and CONGRATS!!!!!!! NOW.......

Man I have answered this question hundreds of time .....

GIVE US DETAILS TO WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Equip us for the correct answer!!!!!!!!!

First of all, Congrats on the marriage and the understanding soon to be wife.
Second of all, be sure and get it before the wedding.. their not so understanding after the wedding....

Agree with the above... what are you using this gift for? Where is the gap in your collection ?

I live in Virgina and hunt in West Virginia, mostly whitetails and the occasional trip out west for elk, all so like to shoot groundhogs and paper. I can shoot out too about 1200yds but most of my shooting takes place inside 500yds. heres what I have 17hmr, 22's, 204 ruger, 222, 22-250, 243, 25-06, 260, 264 win mag, 270, 280, 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, 300 wsm, 300 weatherby, 300 ultra mag. Most of these are remington 700's with a few howa,s a savage or two, and a weatherby. I pretty much just like to get out and shoot, really doesn't matter if it's at paper or game animals. Every gun I have I take out and shoot at some point during the year so no safe queens. thanks for the responses so far and keep them coming. If it was you what would you want?

Never mind the honey moon, Go on a good hunt some where! Or IF 8) shes as good as she sounds, make the honey moon a guided hunt some where you wouldn't normally go. Yukon, BC, New Mexico etc....

Hmmm... pretty well have all the basis covered there....
I think my game-plan there would be to make a run on collecting all the RUM's ?? .338 RUM next item up for bid??

How about a classy lever big bore like a Marlin 45-70 with a nice Zeiss or Leupy. Or maybe a Ruger #1 in 458 Lott.........
Man I am a sick puppy!!!!!!!!!!

I second what JDMAG said!! Go on a great hunt and take her with you to see what a great experience it is. The more they experience it, the more they will realize why we do it. I purposely took my daughter hunting and fishing so she will understand why guys like to hunt and give me grand kids that I can do it with!!

Buy some ammo for what you've got. Take her somewhere she wants to go or do, and put the rest in the bank. The way things are you may need it to keep from having to sell them rifles later for groceries or (gasp)
"baby bills", That happened to me too. Read my post, "best deal you ever passed on?" Congrats- take care of eachother first and the rest will come later. CL

It sounds like you have your hunting rifle collection about covered.
How about a really nice piece of glass to sit on top of one of those rifles.
Or an MP-5, Uzi, or similar.

LOL, I sold a sako to pay for my honey moon.... DO it again too.

Still miss the gun, but they made a few of those. SAKO 75 SS/Syn. 7mm Rem. Mag, would love to replace it someday with a 7 RUM in a Sako 75 also.

I would agree with CL on this, albeit the ladies oughta never know we talk about such things, but besides the one or two guns we have that we really know and have had for awhile the rest are luxuries. I've got several still, but can only use one at a time. Invest in your wife, she'll pay you back a hundred times over. Women are wierd that way(seems to my redneck mind anyway) BTW, since selling the 7 I've gotten a pair of wby's     And we went to Hawaii!!

Amen on taking care of the wife and WOW!!! things are going good with a good wife and TWO WEATHERBY'S

Have agree with jtoews80. Keep her happy and you get to buy all kinds of toys. Last year the little lady wanted to upgrade her wedding ring. No problem, go for it. Got to go to Africa this year and she's letting me go again next year. Best upgrade I ever did. Its great when the Supreme Allied Commander lets you go and play.
