Dubyam, when I was younger we had a similar problem with my Mom's .270. The barrel had became Jugged(?), and the gun had to be rebarreled.....I hope this is just something with that lot of ammo.

This is a new sayin on me, may i ask, what is Jugged ?

Well, I was real young when it happened, so I don't remember all the details that well. It has to do with the chamber becoming misshaped, and the rifle starting to show excess pressure, with normal pressure loads. It normally happens on older rifles that have been shot alot. This rifle wasn't that old, and hadn't been used very hard. I do remember some swearing and having to take the gun to a smith over 250 miles away to have it rebarreled.

except it was not at a range. We were hunting and in Western Oregon it was one of those rare days it actually was raining during deer season. he went to chamber a round in his win. 54. The rifle has a short chamber as it is but the bullet pulled out of the case and with all the rain his rifle was a mess with wet powder. it took a little cleaning

My "other" favorite war story is me going to the range with my 378 WBY Mag with a load of handloads and forgetting my Accubrake. Man that stunk!
