I'm curious, why did you buy a 300RUM when your looking for 30-06 performance. :?

Same question to Remington, Power Level ammunition.
PL I is 30-06
PL II is 300 Win Mag
PL III is 300 RUM

For Remington, is all about marketing.

For us hand loaders, its flexibility. You can target shoot with less powder consumption, barrel wear and recoil.

well rich its like this. its not my gun im doing a favor for a friend. and he didnt ask before he went out and bought the thing and now he wants to put a brake on it. and he cant even sight it in. so i said ill find some primers and make some handloads so he can shoot the darn gun at least. and if remington can load the power level ammo so can i.

No worries, I was just curious. I have a 300RUM shooting 200ABs, so I know what it's like, but I bought mine to shoot heavy 30 cal bullets fast. Anyway, good luck with your friends RUM, and keep us posted.

ya i wasnt trying to be a d..k or anything i just have method to my madness and people always question me about the things i do. and trust me i understand. he would have been better off with a 300win but he has alot more money than gun knowledge and his friend owns the gun store

Cold Hunter,
I would definitely use the brake, and then look at the 200 AccuBond. Felt recoil will be way down, and the bullet at .588 ballistic coeff. is outstanding. A good brake will not slow down the bullet, and the knockdown is incredible. the 165 load will be faster, for accuracy, I ended up around 3200 fps, with the 200 AccuBond, i was around 3050 fps, better knockdown, same felt recoil and single hole groups. that is an amazing gun and combined with the 200 gr AB, an amazing combination. But, that brake is necessary.
best of luck,
hardpan.

To down load it, I'd try H5010.
Slow and bulky, and cheap when bought as surplus.
It give nice mild, and accurate loads for my 7mm STW.

thanks sniper i kind of wanted to steer my buddy away from the brake he plans to go on some hunts to alaska and im told guides dont like them much. and the down loaded shells will be used here in north dakota. i will work them up to full when he can handle it. but its all about practice and flexibillity. not to take away from anyone else but ive watched this forum for awhile and sniper you seem to be right on or both of us are way off.

Take a look at
IMR 7828, Hodgdon listed starting load of 84.5gn @ 2985fps
or
IMR 4831, Hodgdon listed starting load of 80gn @ 2951 fps
or
IMR 4350, Hodgdon listed starting load of 78gn @ 2985 fps

You might be able to play with the above listed starting loads, but do so in very small increments, say maybe in quarter to half grain steps.
Also, shooting the 165gn bullet will reduce the recoil some as it doesn't take as much to propel it as a 200gn bullet.

The nice thing about getting the biggest fastest cartrige is that you can download to whatever velocity you want and still have the option of going max power if you want to. I have been told about guides and muzzle brakes but in my experiences with guides they really care more about your ability to make the shot they spent hours/days getting you in position for than whether the rifle goes bang or BANG. If the guide is worth his reputation at intuition and experience he'll figure out how to put his fingers in his ears or move behind you. Mine have without hesitation and would rather you use a more powerfull caliber"IF" you can shoot it well because that means less tracking and lost game. My 10 cents worth
Good luck on your loading and I hope your friend does well on his hunting trip.

hey rich thanks alot, i have alot of IMR4350 on hand so i will start with that. i had to do some trading to come up with some Fed. 215's cause magnum primers are nowhere to be found up here in north dakota. i ended up with 200 and im lucky. thanks to everybody for the info.
