Go with starting loads and work up to the mid load, which will be your MAX for E-Tips. Watch for pressure signs.

Which cartridge?

I in the process of working loads for my 243 Win.?
Here's what I loaded:
H4350 - Start 42gn and stopped at 43.5gn.

IMR4350 - Start 39.5gn & stopped at 41.5gns

Thanks rich! Any one try h-4831sc? As I see nothing in the book for that? Pop I will look I think you ran me h-4831 sc for 90 bal tips? So mid load max will run the same relative FPS as max with a bal tip?

Since Nosler can't publish all the powders that may work, I've been using Hodgdon's info and making a conservative guess as to a mid point to stop. The powders I listed didn't produce acceptable groups, so I have now loaded up some H414. If that doesn't work, H4831SC will probably be next.

The FPS is relative to your rifle, load combination, temp, altitude, and so on. Using a chrono will be your only way to see what the loads are producing.

I'll go ahead and suggest you move to a powder in the slower range of appropriate powders for the bullet weight and cartridge you're loading for. Also, they seem to like a long jump to the rifling, as well. At least I've had that experience in two rifles loading E-Tips, so far. Beyond that, just use the available data, determine a mid-point, and use a chronograph and you'll be fine.

I have used H-4831sc with 90 grain Bal tips and they make dandy little groups! I get 2930 fps and I will try it with the E tip and see what kind of groups I get and FPS with the crono. Thanks

Just remember to start with the starting load and work up to the MID level load which will be your MAX for the E-Tip.
Let us know how she shoots.

I have included H414 in my quest for a powder for the 90ET. I started at 39.5 and stopped at 42. No signs of pressure at all. I got a decent group with 41.5gn (just under MOA @100M) with a COL of 2.745. I have load up some other to test differing COLs.

Rich,

How far of the lands are you? My findings, along with others here have found .100" off the lands seems to be the magic distance.

If I remember right, doing the fired dimpled brass method, I got 2.76. My first two powders were COL of 2.72 (COL for my other developed loads). I decided to give 2.745 a try with H414.

Here's a pic of the 90ET, 41.5gn of H414, Nosler brass, GM210M primer, and a COL of 2.745". Range is 100M

2.745 is my max in my magazine in my rem rifle as I tried to seat 95 bergers out as far as I could. I will try 2.730 and 2.735 with the E tips and 41.5 grains of H-4831SC, I like the temp variance better with the extreme powders over ball types and even some extruded IMR's, my SD is much better with the H extreme powders.

My 90 bal tips I have at 2.720 and I shoot .6" groups with them at 100 yards. I use 43.5 grains of H-4831 SC upper end is 45.5 grains. If I can get that with the E tip I will be a happy camper!
