Ok the heat is on. Most of us have results back on the first draw and some of us are waiting for the second draw.
I hope everyone drew someplace they can at least enjoy their hunt.
I put in for bear and got drawn in the deer area I drew for so that will add some variety to the hunt.

Question:

What other game animal can you put in for or just hunt during your normal big game hunt???
We have bear, coyote, grouse, badger, squirrel, rabbit, ground squirrel and pigs.
We normally don't see too many of these except Jack rabbits and ground squirrels but they keep us alert. More than a few chipmunks (which are not huntable) have tempted me after a non stop stacatto of chirps which scared off every living thing in earshot.

Just getting in the mood to hunt something!!!

I can hunt elk, moose, deer bear, wolves & coyote where I live when I go out. My only difference this season is I was drawn for cow elk in a WMU zone and a Bull moose in another. Oh well, not worried about the elk as this tag goes till almost Christmas, and by end of November the elk are running near & all over on our farmland. Last season on the last 2 days for me, I had a bull elk tag and had over 100 elk pass by me where I was set up in the bush crossing a line between 5yrds to 30yrds....but not legal bull in the group :( Thats ok becasue my wife got her cow elk 2 weeks later.

I guess if you call plucking off Wiskey Jacks (with Ruger 10/22) picking at the moose quarters hanging near our moose camp, well then thats another one

While I'm in CA, hogs are year around. During deer season, if the hog is of good size, I'll shoot it.

When I'm in Idaho on leave hunting, I have tags for elk, deer, and bear. I was hoping for a moose tag to go with the other three, but lady luck didn't smile on me this year. I'll have to wait until 2010 to put in again.

Ca hunters will appreciate this. My older brother got X5B and my younger brother got G3 and I got ignored again . I realy think dept of fish and game hate me. We can shoot hogs and coyotes during coastal season, though.

eatable game: deer, bear, cougar, but as soon as you shoot the deer, you have to hunt with a pistol or shotgun, unless your bow hunting.

Lots of Game out there. X5B in California is like hitting the poweball jackpot. I've never even heard of anyone who drew it till now and I've got 45 years of hunts behind me.

In Texas: Antelope, Javelina, Hogs, Mule Deer, Turkey, Exotics....and all the predators you can call in.

Well, there is hunting and pest control. I hunt WT deer, grouse, may try a bit of archery moose as it's general and I didn't attempt a draw. WE had lots of skunk, porcupine, and still a lot of coyotes to shoot at this year. Lots of fun, but needed too to keep the dog safe.

Actually here in Oregon as soon as you shoot your deer you cant hunt cats or bear until the deer season is over. Unless I missed something in the regs.

I do believe you can hunt for bear cougar and deer, or elk for that matter at the same time the seasons overlap

in oregon if you have a rifle deer or elk tag and fill it, you can still hunt cougar and bear with shotgun or pistol durring the deer or elk season, if you have a valid tag. and in some elk units 22 centerfire is legal for coyotes.

i can bear/cougar rifle hunt durring bow season also. hunters miss a lot of oportunity, due to not reading the regulations fully

to clarify: once you fill the deer or elk tag, you can still hunt for bear or cougar, you just need to use your shotgun or pistol. before you fill your deer or elk tag any legal weapon is ok to hunt deer, elk, bear and cougar at the same time. once the primary (deer or elk) tag is filled. i'm not a bow hunter so read the regulations or call odfw 503-947-6002 in state toll free 800-720-6339
