I 've never loaded for this round before. A friend of mine has a Win 94 carbine chambered in .44 Rem Mag. He wants to shoot the 225 g FTX Hornady bullet out of Hornady brass. What powders should I look to first? Thank you in advance!

Don't overlook Accurate #9. Just slightly faster burn rate than H110. Gives excellent results in my warm 45 Colt rifle loads.

H110 is an excellent powder for the 44 Mag.
Hornady has a recommended case trim length for that bullet.

I wanted to reiterate this. You have to trip your brass to much shorter than normal with the FTX. As a consequence, you can only use that brass for the FTX - though, I suppose you could do 44 Special level loads in the brass using other bullets -

I have used W296 in 44 Magnum as well as 357. It works very well. For an economy load, I use BlueDot, which produces somewhat smokey and certainly less powerful loads. I DO NOT know if you should use something like BlueDot with the shorter case for the FTX.
