What wildcats have you built/shot/owned?

277 Wolverine in an AR15 is my only wildcat currently. It's a fun little round that nearly duplicates the 6.8 SPC but with 5.56 brass and bolt face.

The 8mm Mag necked to 375 I call the 375JRS because Jon Sundra wrote about it years ago and coined it that. He also did a 7JRS which is a extreme version of a 280AI.

Oops! I just reread my post above and note that I said we necked the 8 mag to 375 which was a mistake.

We necked it to 358 caliber, since those Bitterroots were 250 gr 358 caliber. My faux pas.

Yes Sundra necked the 8 mag to 375,which of course is really no different ballistically than the 375 AI or the 375 Weatherby.

Necking full length, blown out H&H brass up and down is nothing new. Wildcatters and factories have been doing it for years.

Your right there is very little difference between the 8mm mag case and the blown out versions. I've built LOTS of them in .30, .338, .35, and .375 calibers and the most you'll see is about 30fps. Hardly worth fireforming cases.

sorry for the post...............WILDCATS................................ :(

Only a 7 Mashburn for me also...Scotty and Matt are enablers! And I think Bob is the original enabler for them!

Trust me, you didn't have to push awfully hard

Anyone build anything new or have anything in the works? I finish my 6.5x68 Imp but haven't shot it much as I finished it right before hunting season. We've had a pretty brutal winter for trying to get out and shoot so I haven't been able to do that either for the last month plus. I did order a .338 barrel to do a 33-26 Nosler, 338 Norma Imp, 338 RUM, or a 338 Edge for Alaska and I have another 30-338 Norma Imp in the works.

I've got a 7mm Mashburn in the works Nathan. Doing it on a P64 action, Bartlein barrel and a Legend stock. Nothing special but I think I'm going to like it. Trying get it around the 8lb mark all up and ready to hunt.

My newest is a 7 mm Mashburn, prior to that a 30:06 AI, 7 mm STW, 35 Whelen, 338/06. I have not hunted with the AI or the Mashburn as yet. As an interesting side note two years ago a killed a nice spike bull with my 300 WM. He was below me a couple of hundred yards, but from where I shot I could see across the canyon, to where my self and dad and killed a couple of cows 25 years or so back. One was killed with a 300 B, the other my 338/06.

That will be a fun one Scotty. I have another lighter 300wsm in the works but I think it will be around 8 3/4lbs with a VX6 3x18. My other one is just over 10lbs ready to rock with a VX6 4x24. The new one is still going to be a lot lighter than I'm use to but the backpacking bug has bit me some so I wanted something lighter. I'm also doing a 6.5saum on a lighter contour barrel that should come in closer to 8-8 1/4lbs. I've even thought about changing it up and building it on a Tikka action. They have really nicer triggers compared to Remington's plus they are lighter and smoother actions. They don't make great long action caliber guns, due to mag box length, but they make great mid action length guns (which most of the short magnums truly are).

I'm sure you'll like the 7MSM Bill. Scotty had it pretty dialed already so that should make life a bit easier.

280 AI built but it's a standard round now that Nosler finally gave it a home! That probably doesn't count though!

Had a .280 ai,.35 Whelen ai,.338/06,6-284 and .22/6mm. The .280 ai,.35 Whelen ai,6-284 and the .338/06 are gone,the .22/6mm is not.

Currently have a wildcat in 250 AI on a lh 700 cdl and building a 338 federal on a model 88.
Have custom lh 700's in 300wsm, 280 rem and 338-06, custom lh 77's in 376 steyr and 416 taylor, and another one will be rebarrelled to 9.3x62.

I just today got a rebarreled 7 Mashburn back from PAC Nor. I'm not sure when I'll get to shoot her though, there's 50 inches of snow on the ground here and I haven't checked the rifle range road in some time!

And it turns out that either the Remington barrel was crooked or this one is--the new barrel is touching the left side of the barrel channel. No biggie, just needs some dremel work and a new skim bed.

I am praying this new barrel is going to be better than the Rem barrel. I am pretty excited to see what it does for you. Even being a bent barrel it still worked well enough on that lousy old bull.
