Win 760 powder in a 270???

Al,

The "classic" powder for the 270 Win is H4831. The other powder that performs well is RL 22.
I am sure W760 will work, but a slower powder will make it sing.

The fastest load in Nosler #5 is a 130 grain Nosler bullet on top of 54 grains of W760 getting 3158 fps! I should say that should do the trick. I have yet to try it though. W760 has seen only use in my 308 and 30-06. The powders I typically use are 4350 and 4831.

I just might have to give that a try. it's too bad winchester dropped WMR. (Winchester magnum Rifle Powder) They said it was formulated for the .270 Win. and .300 Win. Mg. and frankly, they weren't kidding. My .270 does 2930 FPS with the 150 gr. Sierra Game King and my .300 Win. Mag. does 2950 FPS with the 200 gr. Speer Hot-Core and 2930 FPS with the 200 gr. Nosler Partition. All three laods are sub-MOA, usually right around .75" on average. 8) I still have plenty of that powder left so I'm not too worried about running out just yet. Still, I'll check out using W760 to see how it does in the .270 and 150 gr. bullets. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not all that fond of 130 gr. bullets. Yeah, I know. Sacrilige.

If you're looking for a potentially very fast ball powder for the 270Win, take a look at Accurate MagPro. Data shows 3200fps with a 130gr, and 3000fps with a 150gr (from a 24" test barrel). I suspect real world velocities would be about 20-50fps below that, based on my experience with the powder in other cartridges. It's a good one, though, if you're looking for a ball powder for the 270, or the short mags, or the standard length 'bees...it really is a great powder for this case capacity to bore diameter ratio.

Will it work? Heck yeah! Will it work in your 270? Only she can say.
BTW same as H414.
