Well, I took the rifle up to Kittery Trading Post tonight and they gave me the money I wanted for the M700 CDL 25-06. They actually gave me the SAME amount I was asking in the classifieds. I had them take the scope off and give that back and they gave me the credit towards anything in their store. Well, I asked them if they could get the Win M70 25-06 Sporter? They had to go and call on it, and said that since they are so new, it might be some time, but if ordered, I would get dibs on the first one in. Their price was right, so I ordered it!!! I am stoked. I didn't even have to put a penny down on the new rifle and don't have to worry about paying until they get the rifle. They also said they would ship it to me if I left before it came in. I am here until 11 March, so I am hoping they can get it by then.

You don't know how happy I am right now to be out from under that rifle (CDL). I know it turned around and shot 100's okay, but I just wasn't happy with it. The new M70 Sporter will be my first new SC made M70, so I am pretty stoked about that. I am almost thinking of trading in my heavy barreled Savage and buying another lighter 22-250. The heavy barrel isn't really needed for what I do, and it would be alot nicer for carrying.

I did see the Savage LRH in 6.5-284 that was really sharp. Shouldered really well and just looks like a helluva shooter.

Also shouldered some of the Ruger Alaskan 375's and man, those were pretty awesome also. Plus, I could easily put the 2.5x8 on it for awhile, you know, just to get some rounds down range!!! Anyhow, just wanted to give you all a heads up on the 25-06 saga. Scotty

Congrats - I'm betting it will be worth the wait. BTW, did you ever chamber cast the CDL? After all the sweat and component equity, I just wonder if there was a glitch in throat concentricity or something. You addressed almost everything possible

Thats great Scotty, congratulations to you buddy!
Looking forward to hearing more about your new M70 25-06. I hope she exceeds your expectations.

We'll all be waiting to see how this rifle performs. Don't forget to post pictures as soon as you have your hands on this rifle. I'll be envious, for sure.

Nice, Scotty! I kinda like the new M70 .25-06, and after the troubles you had with the CDL, I totally agree with dumping it. The specs on the new .25-06s are interesting... the sporter is a 24" barrel but the FWT and Extreme Weather are 22"? I'm pretty sure I don't want a 22" .25-06, and the EW was the one I was interested in. Bummer. Well, I guess with all the SS/synthetic rifles I've been buying lately, a wood/CM rifle would be a nice change.

Thanks alot fellers. I am happy at this point. I never did anything past pillars and glass bedding it. Never had a chamber cast done. Just kinda irritated me when the PT's wouldn't shoot for beans. I can't imagine the M70 will shoot the 100gr bullets any better, but as long as it shoots the heavier bullets, I will be happy. Like I said, with a 243 already in the safe, I don't really need a rifle to shoot 100gr bullets. I know it is nitpicky, but that isn't what I wanted out of it.

Bryan, guys like you and I should never be let loose in a store like this. It is better than I remember. The last time I was here, I was about 6-8 years old, and it is very good for price and they are really on the ball to help you out. They run over each other to help you out. I like that in a place. Plus, they have a bunch of used 45-70's and 450 Marlins up here, plus new ones, for great prices. Heck, they had a 444 Marlin and a 356 Win I had trouble walking away from! Scotty

Yeah, I have a few good all weather rifles. I kinda wished Winchester would put out a laminated stocked M70 again. I love my 270WSM Laminate and wouldn't mind a similar one in something else. You are right about the 22" vs 24" barrel. I wouldn't have minded a FWT, but I don't think there is really too much difference in weight between the Sporter and FWT, and I like the little longer barrel. Scotty

Sounds like this store is way up North and not in Va?

a 356 Win

A model 94 w/o the crossbolt safety? Or (dare I hope) a Marlin 336 ER?

I kinda wished Winchester would put out a laminated stocked M70 again.

I'd think such is in the works before much longer. They needed to tool up first. Look at the range of cartridges and offerings of rifle variations already since '08.

Maine is just a few miles to far for a gunshop roadtrip! To bad since they have good prices on the Marlins i looked up :(

Mike, I didn't fondle the Win M94 356. I am too weak and didn't want to cave. I already have the 358, and it needs more attention than I give it.

I do hope they release them with Laminates. They are the best compromise for nasty weather and when paired with stainless they are a very nice combo.

Brian, yeah, they are up here where I am at in NH. I am right on the border area of Maine and NH. Very nice area. Plus, if you see something you like I am sure I could pick it up and bring it back to you if you wanted me too. Plus, I think they will ship it to you also. So at worst, I could look it over for you before you decide to purchase. Scotty

I saw a 444, 45-70 GG, and a 450 Marlin GG configuration. I really didn't have as much time as I wanted anyhow, so I will go back later and check more. Matter of fact, I will head back tomorrow night... Scotty

Me, in trouble? Nahh, it is my pleasure buddy! Besides, I need to go check out those 375's anyhow! Scotty

A FWT just screams ".270" to me. I don't know if I'd do a .25-06 in one, but like I said, I sure like the EW.

I'd probably buy an M70 in a laminate stock, if the chambering was interesting. Certainly not the typical .243 / .270 / 7RM / '06 / .300WM. Heck I might even try a .338.

More the pity. Had the M94 followed you home, you'd soon throw rocks at most of your other rifles. Consequently, the BLR is undoubtedly lonely in your gun safe. It needs a good, manly M94 nestling up to it. Who knows what might result from such an introduction!

Doc, I believe that Scotty has a Marlin .45-70 to keep the BLR from getting too lonely.
