Had a buddy at work that has a Marlin 1895G 45-70 and a M700 308. He asked what rifle he should get to kind of be his do it all rifle. I told him to get a M70 300 Win Mag, put it in Leupold mounts and pick a VX3 that suits him. Well, he got a M70 Super Grade 300 Win Mag, 4.5x14-40 VX3 Leupold and Leupold rings and bases. Talk about a SWEET rifle. The fit and finish is awesome. The blueing is out of this world. I hope it shoots nearly as great as it looks. It is a very nice rifle. I haven't ever shot a Super Grade, but for right around a 1000.00 bucks, it looks like alot of rifle! I will try and get some pictures of it one of these days, but man oh man, I wished Winchester would chamber some .257 cals. I would send my CDL down the road pretty quick I think! Scotty

I had it in 2 different 264 Win mags. They are one of the classiest rifles ever made.

The 300 win mag in the Super grade?

200 gr AB or PT with 72.5 grains pf RL 22 in the 26" barrel? It will do 3050 fps (same as a 300 Bee) and take care of anything.

I had him buy some cheap Winchester stuff to break in the barrel. I told him when he is ready, I will teach him to handload and also show him Nosler. I love RL22 and the 200gr Noslers in my 300WM.

Your right, it is a very nice rifle, I would almost dry during its first trip out hunting, since I knew it was going to get scratched, but hey, it is all character! Scotty

I love Super Grades, but my only concern is that they are pretty heavy for a one-gun guy. As a second rifle it's the bee's knees.

I've been toying with the idea of picking a standard-magnum SG and rebarreling it to .300 H&H. I dunno if it's even feasible, but they make the Super Express in .375 H&H and .416 Remington, so I assume a Super .30 will fit in the magazine.

The Super Grade in 300 H&H would be awesome. I can't think of a classier rifle than that! Scotty

I do like these new Super Grades. They are indeed handsome rifles.

Maybe one in 375 Ouch & Ouch Scottie?

Already on my Wish List! I am pretty sure when I get a 375, that is going to be the one I get. I already have H&H dies, so it makes it easier! Scotty

They are beautiful rifles for sure. Nothing I have heard about them since the move to the new plant is that they are being built BETTER than they ever have been before. Now if they would just chamber one in 6mm Remington :!:

Will not happen! That would be like admitting that the 6mm is better than their 243 Win.

6mm Rem is just a reamer away from a 243 Win! Scotty

I thought about that Scotty and am still considering it. What my gunsmith told me though, which should not be a tough job, would be that the barrel would have to have more threads put on it and then cut off before a reaming job would work. The 6mm Remington case has just a little bit more taper in the case which is longer as well, so to make it reamable more threads would have to be cut and the barrel set back a bit before that would work. I'm not sure how much that would add to the cost and I expect that only about 1/2 inch of barrel at the most would be lost. I could live with that. If I become too afraid here I might just have to consider that as I have not heard from Ruger if they are going to chamber for it anytime soon, and all the CDL talk has me nervous about buying one. You do realize Scotty that you ARE NOT MAKING THIS ONE DARN BIT EASIER ON ME! Waht a pal!

That is what I am here for! Sounds like an easy enough job though. 6mm Rem in a good M70 Sporter would be a sweet heart I believe. Scotty

I sold a 243 77V Ruger MK I that I bought in Germany to a buddy of mine. It was one of the early ones. Ruger did not have barrel forging machines back then, but they had a contract with Douglas barrels. Everything I put through that gun was 3/4" at the max. He turned it into a 6mm AI. At 347 yards (max for our range at the time) he fired several groups in the 1.5" range! What a gun!!

But Winchester did chamber a .25.....the farse 25WSSM. Shame on them. Now stuff that same bullet in a 270 WSM case and THEN you've got somthing. BUT NOOO.... So disappointing. Just my soap box though.... Not to take away from your friends rifle. It sounds Really, Really nice. Id like to see it too. CL
