Which would you choose in a 338 win mag? The winchester comes with the 26 inch barrel and the ruger comes with the 24 inch barrel. The winchester is alittle bit lighter. The winchester i would get duracoated and the ruger i would get in stainless.

Two fine rifles. You wouldn't go wrong with either. Either will serve you well. Go with the one that is aesthetically pleasing.

I would go with the Ruger, you don't need a 26" barrel on a 338Win mag. when you consider powders, brass capacity with the .338" bore size. Ruger is is a stronger mauser type action than Winchesters design. Both good rifles but the Ruger will also allow for quicker swing time to the shoulder and won't get in your way while hunting as much as the longer Winchester. Rugers make exceptionally tough and accurate barrels now.

I would go with Bullet on this. Now, if you were talking a M70 Sporter, that may be different. I think a 24" barrel on the Ruger is plenty. You will get just about all there is out of it. The Ruger Hawkeye in the stainless models are very well built. My wife shoots a 308 Hawkeye as such. Dr Mike is right on too, get the one that really looks and shoulders good for you, and I bet you will like the rifle for a long time. Great choice in caliber. One of my favorites! Scotty
