Are the bolts on the push feed Winchesters just like rem 700s? I.E. enclosed bolt face, ejectors etc.
I had a 338XTR that shot lights out with the 200gr BTs but that was years ago before I became a rifle looney. I was thinking about using a push feed action because I can pick one up for a couple of hundred instead 400+ for a Rem700 or a 70CRF. I want to play with some other calibers and trying to do it a little cheaper. I could also go the Contender route or maybe the Savage and barrel nut route. What are your thoughts?

Scott, yeah, the XTR's are pretty much the same as the M700. Winchester did build some of their WSM's and WSSM's with Controlled Round Push Feed, which is slotted at the bottom, in order for a round to slip under the extractor, instead of having to pop over it.

I have an early 90's 7mm Rem Mag, rifle is very accurate and I have had 0 issues with it. I don't buy them much, but when a little 7mm Mauser came around for my son, I jumped all over it and it is very accurate.

They are similar but not the same. A Remington has a bolt nose (it sticks out from the lugs) where the extractor is. A Winchester doesn't have a bolt nose and the extractor is built into the front of the recoil lug. The Winchester is a lot like a Savage and would make a great action to use a barrel nut on like a Savage if someone was so inclined.

Had a push feed Winchester action that was built into a long-range target rifle. It was incredibly accurate. For a couple of decades they were the darling of the NRA High Power match shooters, for both across the course rifles and long-range prone rifles.

My good friend has two model 70 push feed rifles, his 270 Win is very accurate and has accounted for quite a few nice sheep and goats and his 300 WM is very accurate with 200 and 220 gr Partitions. Great guns.

Earlier this year, I bought a model 70 PF .270 from a friend that needed to sell it. I really didn't want it, but it turned out to group bug-holes with the 130PT.

He won't get it back   .

I had a .280 chambered in a Featherweight that was a push feed; it was a most satisfying rifle to shoot as it delivered such tight groups. I am having a .284 built on a push feed Winchester action at this time.

I have a 66 Model 70, 300 WM. Until I got my tactical it was the most accurate rifle I owned. Its a close match now both, will put them under a dime. I will say the 308 is a lot easier to shoot.

Ok I have to admit I don't own a Winchester M70 and don't quite understand the controled feed push feed deal. I do own a 725 Remington, Ruger M77 and a Weatherby Vanguard. I never payed attention to it in the past a bolt action was just a bolt action to me. :?:

Let's just say that despite my success with push-feed Winchesters, whenever I'm buying for myself, I am looking for CRF. If it is one of the newer production models, that is not a problem. Used or NIB from the New Haven line, I'll look somewhat closely to verify what I'm getting. I am in the market for another action to build an 8X68S on, and it will likely be a Winchester CRF.

Thanks for all the input. As usual I learn a lot from all the knowledge on this board. I like CRF actions myself; 3/4 of my rifles are Win 70s, Mausers or Rugers with CRF actions. I have a few Rem 700s that are donors or are waiting to become donors. I think 700s are so popular for customs because of all the after market parts that are available. Rem 700s never sell for much lower than $450 and Win70CRF actions seem to be closer to $500 but I've noticed that you can find M70 push feeds for as low as $200. I have several extra stocks and misc. parts for 700s and 70s that I'm looking for inexpensive ways to put guns together and play with different calibers. I have a 22x6mmAI Rem 700 barreled action that has a 1in12 twist  that I picked up for $200. The throat and lands are in good shape. If I had built it, it would have had a 1in8. I'm thinking of setting it back and rechambering to 22-250AI. I think 50gr bullets would do real well in that combo..... or I might leave it alone and shoot it as is since I don't have a lot of money into it.
