Yes, that's one heck of a bull!

And NOT from some high-fence elk farm. An honest to goodness wild bull elk taken by an honest to goodness elk hunter! The way it should be.

What a set of antlers for the wall!

Guy

How strong is that wall that can hold those!!!!

The muscles that ol' boy must have had in his neck! One monster elk. Congratulations to the hunter who tagged him.

Finally read the account. That he took him with a crossbow is all the more astonishing. Sixty-one yards is stretching it some.

Man o man, that is a huge bull!
Congratulations to the hunter.

That's awesome!
I'm pretty much speechless.

I don't think that is going to be a very good tasting elk "BUT" I think I could live with that.

I dunno'; you sometimes get some surprises with the big boys. It depends on how heavily they are into the rut and how carefully the hunter handles the meat. I've eaten some elk (and moose and mule deer) that were adorned with pretty gnarly headgear that tasted pretty good. 'Course, I've eaten some that didn't have much for headgear that tasted pretty rank. The latter was taken by and prepared by others.

I agree with you Doc . My thoughts were he shot the elk with a crossbow and if it was during regular archery season that would have been rut time. I'm not sure if Wyoming allows the crossbow the entire length of all seasons. I've eaten (or should I say attempted to eat) elk during the rut and it may have been the way it was prepared but it left a bit to be desired.

Bow season ends at the end of September I believe. Overlaps a few weeks with rifle season.

Word is, the mount is being donated to the RMEF.

Couldn't image the adrenaline pump when spotting and shooting at that bull. I get excited shooting at cows.
