AWESOME Bill! That's great! Maybe putting some antlers on the wall this Fall? HA! Very cool!

Congrats where you going?

The closest land mark is Afton on the north and La Barge on the East, the Idaho border on the West. As close to home as I can. Its still 700 miles each way.

My aunt and uncle use to live in Afton and guide all around there. My aunt shot a 373 B&C bull along the Idaho/Wyoming border and I shot my bull moose just into Idaho from there (Stump Cr.). I saw some nice bulls in unit 76 on the Idaho side when I was moose hunting. BTW the Idaho elk winter in Wyoming and they have a late hunting in Wyoming when they migrate down. That is the hunt my aunt shot her bull in.

Congrats Bill!
Good luck and I look forward to hearing about your hunt. I'm buying points for a future WY elk hunt. How many bonus points did you need if you don't mind my asking?

For the general season tag it took two. You can draw with one but not every time. If you are looking at a specific hunt or area their website has PP totals and odds. For the very best elk draw hunts it takes 10 or more. I hunt elk so I don't know about deer or antelope, Guy and a couple of others here can tell you about them.

Nathan, my last two Idaho elk (cows) came out of Stump creek. I quit putting in their however because the numbers are down and I have had really tough weather, (20 below) two out of the three times I have hunted there.

I think I'll wait for the Wyoming "leftover lic. list", to see whats there. I think I can get a regional non-resident deer tag, after the drawing.

Last but not least, I will be in the Montana antelope draw.

Good job Bill, look forward to a real good story with lots of photos :).
What will you be taking for a rifle?

Blessings,
Dan

What will you be taking for a rifle?

The primary will of course be the worn put push feed Model 70, 300 mag. Backup will be the STW (with a new barrel). I have been hauling around a backup rifle for years and never needed one. However last fall one of my partners, brand new high dollar scope fogged on the second or third day of the hunt. A backup was available and he continued hunting.

Kodiak, there will be leftover cow/calf, opportunities available also, probably cheaper than a deer tag.

Congrats buddy! I knew I should have taken your advise and put in for Wyoming points two years ago. Never will catch me on a hunt without a backup after the Idaho hunt

Thank you Bill.

I'm looking for something with decent odds and three or four points.

Oh, good point, Elkman. Thanks, I will be sure to look for them!

Wyoming has been good to this non-resident. Four hunting trips in the past twelve years:

One 6x6 bull elk
Three mule deer
One pronghorn

I like Wyoming! Not returning to hunt this year, though I may make a motorcycle trip there to visit friends this summer. Will likely buy a preference point, maybe two though. Intend to hunt there again in a year or two!
