Somone or somebody sent me an E=mail in the last day or so to remind me that the Wyoming points only sale is on. I recommend it to all, a great way to build points in Wyoming which I consider one of the best hunting states for elk. I have been there 5 times in 5 different units, brought home 4 cows and a bull. Their reduced price cow calf hunts are a bargain.

Where is the link Bill?

I see a moose hunt in your near future too! I drew a great resident tag with 12 points five years ago. I get to start all over again next year. Brian

Brian,

You are spot on. It is my goal to tie into a big ol moose.

That is the down side to preference points, it typically raises the length of time to draw. You know for sure you'll draw but it takes twice as long typically. I hope Idaho never goes to it. Boy it's a money maker for them though. Look at how much Jim has already spent on 10 preference points (75x10=750) and then when he draws he still pays a large price for the tag. Another down side is the amount of points needed to draw continues to climb from the day the preference points start for hard to draw animals like goat, sheep, and moose. By the time my kids are old enough to hunt it will probably be 20-30+ years of applying to get one of the better tags. Here in Idaho you will typically draw a bull moose tag in 5-8 years as a resident and a cow in 1-2 years.

If they get really money hungry they will do like Maine and allow you to buy as many chances in the drawing as you can afford. A few years of that and I quite applying. I had 5 or 6 points prior to that and should of drawn within a year or two. I applied for about 3 more years and gave up. I even bought 20 or 25 chances in the drawing one year and 5-10 the other years in addition to the points I had for each year of applying.

Oh well. Compared to California's elk tag odds North Korean Wooley Mammoth tags would probably be easier to draw to, so I bought a point @ for deer, elk and antelope. Total points I've got 4 elk, 2 deer and 3 antelope so I should be able to hunt something in Wyoming next year. Or it's back to Wooley Mammoths.

Or it's back to Wooley Mammoths.

Do you have to pay homage to Dear Leader? I'd think with all the dinosaurs in the People's Democratic Legislature, the wooly mammoths would have a hard time getting around.

No problem. As an overt act of frendship between our two great nations we're going to export a few Neanderthols from our legislature to deal with their Wooley Mammoths.
Politics, you just gotta love it. :?
Greg

...why not just put in fer a WY mammoth tag???

I can remember when I first started putting in for a moose tag in Maine. There was no purchasing of points. You put in with everybody else and prayed. Of course the hunting license cost 50.00 at that time and the moose permit was ( I think) 100.00. After 17 years of applying I finally got lucky and drew (1999). Now you can buy as many blocks of chances as you want and everytime you put in you pick up a point, and all the prices needless to say are way up there. I figure by the time I might get another chance I'll need a motorized wheelchair.

wildgene,
Shhh, that's a little known secret and I was hoping to keep it that way so my odds of drawing would be better.
