As mentioned in a few other threads, I have an 338RUM XCR on the way. My question to you is, would you consider changing the stock to, say, something more pleasing to the eye, such as a laminate stock? I have been contemplating this and am still undecided. I may wait to see how the XCR stock actually looks.

I love the Lss stock. But shoot it first as is. Maybe it is a 1 holer, in that case I would love the stock it came with!

The LSS stock is my favorite. I have two of them. I agree with Pop, shoot the XCR as is before you make any decisions.

No question the LSS stock is prettier and feels great but the xcr stock is accurate, grippy and bullet proof and works real well. I would choose the LSS if I bought a barreled, stainless action but I wouldn't change out the xcr stock to LSS because it would kind of defeat the Extreem condition value of the rifle. It comes down to personal prefference. I agree, try the xcr and then decide.

I have a .338 in RUM XCR stocked. So far it has been spot on for the accuracy with the stock stock (pun intended) The recoil pad DOES make a difference on this rifle!! All of my hunting buddies who have touched it off at the range dont want to take a second shot with it! Recoil is right up there. I have not put any fur in the crosshairs yet. Going to take the RUM to look for a bear here in Washington State next weekend. Good luck with your new rifle

The gun is at the dealer, just waiting on R of KA's 10- day wait. I'm going to have to wait to get a good scope though, need some cash for my trip to Idaho this fall. In the mean time, I have a couple of cheapie scopes to use to get it broke in and maybe work on a load. I'll laugh if the cheapie Simmons 8-point I have makes it through break-in. I'm going to save up for a 4.5-14X50 VX-L and if I can get a load worked up, order it from Leupold's custom shop and have them make a custom reticle for that gun and load.

I agree as well to your plan. Good glass is an investment.
