Hello all, here is where I'am at. I recently sold a couple rifles that haven't seen the light of day in a few years, and decided I was going to get a new firearm. Well I can't make up my mind on what I want, I'm going between a Savage F Class, or Benchrest in 6.5X284 (not for competition just longer range plinking and varmints, or a stag arms model 6 varminter ( once again plinking and varmints. While I'm debating over which firearm to get, I would like to know what YOU would get if you had $1000 to spend

I would be coming home with a new Marlin 1895GBL with XS Ghost ring and a Leupold vari-xII 1-4x20 in QD mounts, not that I have been sitting around thinking about it or anything...........

HMMMH?

I don't know.
I have two trains of thought here.

If I had $1k to spend on a rifle alone it's gonna be a toss up between:
A)Scrounging up parts and building a rifle in a Savage action at home or
B)Scouring the gunshows and having a rifle built off of a donor Mdl 700.

I'd also be looking at the 6x47 Lapua for your intended purpose.

Of course their is ALWAYS the option of building an AR in 6.5 Grendel and using it as a base for any number of other possibilities

I dont know your situation but it sounds like you have plenty of rifles like myself If I had 1k I would buy a custom built leupold

If it were me I would get a M700 CDL SF in 264 Win Mag. That is my next rifle if I can ever save up the duckets. It has a 26" Stainless Fluted barrel and looks like it would be a great long range deer rifle that would wring everything out of the 264. Scotty

If it were me, I would keep saving and buy a Nosler Custom.

Having to make a decision like that could keep most of us up the better part of several nights just exploring all the options.
IMO: Think of the caliber and power range you've always wanted, then think of what kind of actions that you'd like. Next step is to think of the stock configuration and barrel type and length. With that short list look at all the factory rifles that might fit that option list. If you can't find one then start building it piece by piece on paper and add up the price.
That should give you a pretty good perspective of your options.
Have fun and keep us posted

I would hit the local pawn shop and get a used savage. Call up Pac-Nor and order a 6.5-284, or a 6.5-06 AI on a 26" stainless super match, in a 6 or 7 conture. Screw it all together in my shop. Looking at $250-$300 for the action. $405 for the non fluted barrel ready to screw on (+$125 for six flutes if you want). $50 for a good used stock that would fit the barrel. That leaves $245 for a scope. I'm sure a guy could find a good used VXII 6-18 or something of the like for around that price. It might take some shopping around but I think for $1000 a guy could put togeather a pretty cool package.

Just send me the 1,000.00 and I will come up with something of interest. Of course if you don't like what I finally come up with I will just keep it so you will not be frustrated. PM me and I will give you my address.  8)

I'm with one above. Find a donor Savage and build one I want in a caliber i want and hopefully have enough left over for some decent Glass to put on it. AR's are fun too, mind you. Not as accurate as a bolt gun for the most part.

I like my current rifles.

I'd spend $1000 on bullets, powder and range time.

Im with Guy. Get me a pronghorn tag some where. Spend some time away from here...... But if I had to huy a rifle, A Savage "Classic" in 250-3000 Savage and a beat up used 243. CL

Ok I thought that we were talking about new projects.

If I had $1000 right now I would order my 280AI 24" #3 stainless super match from Pac-Nor. Sending my VXIII 4.5-14x40 LR to Luepold to have the TMR installed. Ordering a McMillan that is 70% olive green, 25% grey and 5% black in their mountain rifle stock. Calling up midway and ordering a new trigger and trigger guard. Then I'll have to stay as busy as possible to keep my mind off of it while I wait for everything to get here! I'm very excited about this gun!

Well I just picked up a DPMS lower and a Tont's custom arms upper in 223, it not the stag arms varminter that I was looking at, but I got a great deal on it. I also got a bushnell elite 6500 4.5X30X50 off of ebay for under $550. So I'm happy as a pig in mud. I'm still interested in what everyone would get if they had the funds available.

Thanks

Man, that sounds like you got your money's worth for 1000! Sounds like you have some loading to do! Scotty

1000 bucks would come really close to getting the carbon fiber stock for my 257 wby christensen arms and my leupold vx3 4.5-14 cds!
