So this morning I made another hearty walk/run up and down the nearby hill, about an hour and a half. Come home, grab a bite to eat and chug some water. My youngest son reminds me that we were going to make a trip to the rifle range with the deer rifles. Good idea.
Off we go. Set up targets at 200 & 300 yards. He's using the 1974 vintage 6mm Rem 700 BDL with a 3.5-10x Leupold and 100 gr Nosler Partitions loaded to about 3,000 fps. I've got my .25-06 Rem 700 CDL with a 6x Leupold and 115 gr Nosler Partitions as well as the ancient M-1917 .30-06, also topped by a 6x, and shooting 165 Noslers at about 2750 fps.
The youngster takes a few shots at 200 yards. Everything appears to be well. I take a few shots at 300 yards and all is well with both the .25 & .30 cal rifles. Then I note the gong hanging there at 377 yards, beckoning...
We can't resist. I've got the sling wrapped around my arm, and send the first shot from the .25-06 smashing into the gong! Nice. Young 377 looks at me, grins, dials his scope to 10x and his first 100 gr Nosler smacks the gong too! I dubbed him "Young 377" at that point.
I think we're ready... Sorry guys - we were having too much fun and I forgot to take photos. You've all seen the rifles anyway, nothing special, just good, ordinary hunting rifles.
Regards, Guy
