A factory load, fired from my 22" Marlin 1895. I didn't chronograph it. Muzzle velocities from this load have been reported from 1100 - 1330 fps, very mild shooting load with a big bullet.

Bullet was recovered from the 8th water jug! Very impressive penetration! Test was at 20 yards, which has destroyed some other .45/70 bullets.

Recovered weight was 397 grains, and it barely expanded, I measured it at .53", but again, it barely expanded.

I used this bullet on one mule deer at about 70 yards, loaded to a muzzle velocity of about 1650 fps. That bullet drove through both shoulders, broke the spine, and exited into the hillside beyond. It's also proven accurate on targets.

That Remington 405 is a huge chunk of lead. I have shot the Speer 400gr'er a bunch as well. Pretty neat bullet and accurate to boot. Scotty

Those Factory loaded Rem 405 sp chrono at 1289 FPS avg out of my 18.5 " 95 g rifle ! With a stout load they come out at 1832 FPS avg ! RJ

When they start reaching 2K in the velocity that is where it get complicated.
