7mm08 velocity

140g Partition 40.5 grains of imr 4895. Savage m11 trophy hunter. 20 inch barrel. Chronograph ten ft. From the muzzel. Only shot one that's all the time I had. Shot was 2693fps. This is were the load came from. Using fed 210 primers. was hoping for some more speed I am still .5 off of book max as you can see. I also have varget and imr 4064 powders. Looking at the brass I don't see any psi sights and bolt lift was normal. Do you think another grain would be safe? Is there a better powder of the other two that I have to try. Was hoping for at least 2800fps.

I think you are fine, the case looks good and if you report no others problems, I'd be inclined to try them. Seeing as you have a little shorter barrel, I'd deduct 30'ish FPS (for every inch of barrel loss) for the shorter barrel working up to the speed Nosler reports in their book. I doubt your going to run into trouble.

To me, if IMR4895 shoots well for you, I'd be inclined to try it and see what comes out. The others don't look appreciably better to me.

RL17 may gain you a touch more speed, but if you are looking for 2800, the good old 4895 will get it right...

+1 on what Scotty said. That Nosler data is with a 6" longer barrel. I notice that the QL data for IMR 4895 is very close to your results, and he did run it for a 20" barrel. FWIW, almost every time I have tried to achieve someone's published max velocity, I have ended up backing off a little - and that is in nearly every rifle I own.

I reload for 4 7mm-08s, all Tikkas, 22 7/16" barrels. I use the Nosler max of 47.5 gr Big Game for 2880 fps. I use Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers. Find some Big Game and work up.

I wouldn't stress out over velocity in 7mm-08 with partitions. I have Federal factory loaded partitions that say 2800 fps on the box but chrono at 2650 out of my 20" model Seven. I have recovered 2 bullets from deer and they looked picture perfect. The one on the left was 40 yards and the right one was 140 yards, both quartering towards shots, both found in opposite hind quarter. These were the 2650fps factory loads. Again, I would load for accuracy, not speed with these bullets (most bullets actually).

I am using 48 gr. of H4350 in my reloads for my model seven with partitions and I squeezed 2750fps, but that's a stiff load in my gun. It just so happened to be where I got the best accuracy too.

They do look good! Just doing some experimenting to see what I can get it to do. You know how us reloaders are haha!

Case pressure looks just fine to me, just make sure you work up in .3 increments with 3 rounds per increment until you find the accuracy your rifle likes. I done it with Varget ( top across ) and IMR 4064 ( 2nd row across )in my .308 during load work ups until I hit the node for each powder.

Start around the middle between min and max and go up in .3 increments. Good luck shooting and report back soon.

41.5 grains of 4895 got me 2772 fps. The case still looks good to me. What do yall think?

Yep got to see where the accuracy is. Going to try to load up some to shoot on paper tomorrow. Also may step up .3 to 41.8 and see what happens on fps and paper.

Seems like a big jump for 1 grain of powder....maybe more shooting will give a more accurate average?

Actually...my brain fart....79FPS not too surprising. As you shoot for groups you'll get a more accurate average.
