I was in a gunshop today perusing their assortment of partial and "used" boxes of reloading bullets. I found this sealed box of 60 gr. Solid Base bullets. I haven't used any Solid Bases before on game but most I've seen have been larger diameter/ weight.

Could someone tell me if these are intended to be "deer" or varmint bullets so I have a better idea of how to load them.

Whoa, those are very old, new stock. I have a box of 7mm 150gr with the same packaging, from the 90's.
I cannot exactly say the application for the 22 caliber. I made the mistake of shooting a deer with a 22 cal BT from a 22-250 and will never do that again. The bullet left a baseball sized hole in the rib cage when I clipped a rib. It was effective, but very messy.

The 60gr Partition is one of my favorite 22 caliber bullets for antelope inside of 300yds.

You'd probably hate them, maybe send them my way.. I'll get rid of them for you!

I used that bullet in my 220 swift back in the eighties. I took several white tail deer as well as javelina and coyotes. I'd use them for deer today if Nosler still made 'em.
Thank you, Bruce, that's the info I was looking for! I don't have a Swift but I DO have numerous 223s and a 22-250. If I can develop a load, I may try to put one through a doe's lungs during our early antlerless season.

That's the way I used it.

I never tried solid base in my 22-250, but my 7x57 loved them. I still have a small stash of the 140s. I like to call them whitetail wonders.
The 7mm 140 gr SB has been reintroduced in the Nosler Whitetail ammunition line. They had seconds available a couple months ago and I snagged up a couple hundred of them. You might want to check to see if they are still available.

That is a fine bullet that will work well in your rifles after finding the load. I wouldn't hesitate to put one thru the ribs of a deer. Good around bullet. I used to use the 55gr version of same bullet in a 222 Rem for turkeys and such and it did well. Have a box of the 50gr I'll play with in my 223 to see what it does. By the way don't send to Scotty. Send them to me, I really want to help you out:LOL: Dan.

Now, now, Dan, we can't have squabbling over bullets. I'll take them myself if you can't play nicely with Scotty!:sneaky:

I'm pleased to see some positive chit chat about the solid base bullets, they were a favorite of mine. Glad to see them make a comeback and I hope it is a successfull one. Maybe Nosler will choose to load the Whitetail ammo in 7mm Rem Mag in either the 150 or 162gr.
