Twist Rate For 175 ABLR

New here but I'm old and am on other forums. I love Nosler bullets and started reloading in 1959 for 30-06 and 7mm Wby mag.

I have a Kimber Mountain Ascent + Peak on the way in 7 Rem Mag. These have a 26" 1:9.5 twist rate. I want to shoot 175 ABLR for my NV elk hunt this November, but I'm a bit hesitant, since these have a relatively slow pitch. Launched at 2,925 FPS using Grand powder, which I find excellent in over-bore rounds and especially in my 6.5 PRC with 142 ABLRs, will the 9:5 pitch stabilize the 175 ABLR? Shots could exceed 400 yards.

I edited my post. I mistakenly said the 7Mag would shoot 175 ABLRs at 3,100 fps. I meant to write 2,925 fps.

Welcome to the forum.
The 175 ABLR might be a tab too long to stabilize in a 9.5t. The 168 ABLR could be an alternative.

Might recheck inputs to match ablr's length with the 9.5 including estimated temp and altitude.

I did this
Used 195 elite hunter snd changed length to 1.54 (according to nosler site info), changed weight to 175, 5k feet of altitude, 40° temp and 3,100fps.

What got was 1.49

30° at 6k was 1.51

The colder the temp toned either more speed or more altitude for the 1.5 minimum if you don't have something with a faster twist.

For a closer to actual speed outcome it would be closer to 2,900-2,950 as that's what a 28" barrel.

I just went back and edited my post. Speeds should be about 2,925. You're absolutely correct. I don't know where I came up with 3,100...must have been dreaming...LOL

It could be 3,100, but my projected speeds are in a 28" 7saum with max length at 2.870-2.880" depending on mag as it's with a 195eol. With 175's you might be getting those speeds? IIRC nosler data is close to 3k w/24" depending on which powder

They are also my anticipated speed for the 175 ABLR in the 26" barrel Kimber using Ramshot Grand. I have hunted NV elk in November in 75 degree weather, and always above 6,500 feet. Is you have not tried Grand you owe it to yourself to get a pound and play. ;)

I do have a pound or 2 to try, but haven't had time in 4 years to reload. I'm more than that behind on shooting everything I've built since '19. Next year is upon me and hopefully have lots of time to play! New powders I've bought and haven't tried yet are all 3 sta-ball, grand, 15.5, lrt, 160, 165, 560, 565, 568 & 570.
