I love Nosler's AccuBond, which I believe is a one of the best all-around bullets there are to choose from.
For starters, the AccuBond is a Ballistic Efficient round with an aerodynamic BC of .509 - enabling more downrange energy on target.
Example:

Am considering a 223 Rem. rifle to be used for 75% benchwork and have a lot of 55-gr. FMJ factory ammo to use up with my two boys.
Question:
Since most manufactures make the 223 with a 1 in 12 twist, will this rate be adequate for most 55-gr. bullets?
I totally agree with your remarks about the 280 Remington! Had it been introduced just a few years sooner, it would have been just as popular as the 270 Win. and a superior cartridge as well.
Happy Holidays!
Is your rifle a nice Remington XCR or SPS in stainless? Just bought a new SPS Stainless in 30-06 for my son's completion of Eagle Scout requirements and plan on using the 180-gr. AccuBond for everything.
My favorite deer load in 30-06 is 180-gr. Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips.
If I remember right, Ballistic Tips (BT's) were designed by John Nosler for violent expansion / explosion and medium penetration on light-skinned animals like deer. For most calibers shooting fragile BT's...
Went to the range yesterday and the Rem 700 with 24" barrel was shooting factory 30-06 High Energy Federal Partitions at 1 1/8" groups with a hot barrel.
I've found my elk ammo for one rifle, now need to see what the semi-auto likes (probably 180-gr. AccuBonds from the Winchester Supreme...
P.S. My best groups in the Remington 7400 semi-auto were 5/8" using factory Federal 180-gr. Solid Base Boat Tail ammo and I've been fortunate to achieve 1" or better 3 out of 4 times. This is rare, but I still have the targets and the rangemaster is still shaking his head.
Semi-auto 30-06 has...
I am taking my son on an elk hunt in northern Utah this fall and wonder what factory ammo to use. We have the following boxes of 30-06 ammo in stock to choose from and shooting Remington 7400 semi-auto / Remington 700 bolt action rifles:
* Federal Hi-Energy 180-gr. (Nosler) Partitions @ 2,880...
I suggest the .223 Remington in a rifle with 1 in 7 twist (if possile) or the 204 Ruger, with the latter outperforming the 22-250, 222 Remington, 220 Swift and etc...

A 270 Win will be fine.
For my two boys of similar age, I bought them a 30-06 and had them practice with Reduced Recoil Loads from Remington at the range.
When in the field, they switched to regular ammo and never new or felt the difference.
