I've shot 2 elk with the 200gr partitions, one was at about 130 yards and one at about 60 yards. Those were wild guess ranges. I didn't have a range finder in the late 90's. But both were pass throughs. That inexpensive Winchester M70 black shadow loved those 200grs.
I will let you know. When I was at the range yesterday, there where two other guys to my left. I'm not exactly sure what they were shooting. But when they would shoot and their bullets would hit the back stop. They would get little puffs of dust. When I would touch off one of those 220's and...
Thank you, yeah I was surprised RL26 got it going that fast and still had accuracy. I'm thinking about going with 4350, mid 2800 is nothing slouch about either. And the first three shots when the rifle was cool was pretty impressive.
My longest shot ever was at a 4X4 mulie at 419 yards. Everything else has been bow ranges. Last bull I got was only 33 yards. With a 338/300 win mag wildcat using 225 ttsx. But I like getting close too, hear them breath and smell up close. Long shots maybe cool, but nowhere near the...
Was it pretty warm when you were up there? The guide who's packing me in. Said that during the archery season, they were into elk everyday, it was just so thick they just couldn't get a shot off. They did get a bull from 12 yards and another guy ended up getting a bear.
I got 2854 with IMR4350, 2760 with IMR 4831 and a screaming 2940 RL26. I've been pick at the brass right now. When I shot the first RL26 load and saw the velocity. I thought oh God. I was really expecting a tight bolt, cratered primer or even the primer falling out. To my complete surprise...
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. On the 7th of this month I'm heading to Idaho for a pack in DIY Elk hunt. At first the area I was going to be in, was going to have mid-range to long range shots. 200 to 550 yards. But just found out, the shots are going to be MUCH shorter. 80 yards will...
