    RCBS X Die

Truth be told, I inherited a lot of my RCBS dies and when I have trouble, I drop the coin on Redding dies. Thinking I need a forester triax at some point, but making due until then… I only hunt, so no over the top effort for competition shooting… but seems every solution to a problem takes me...

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

RL 17 is similar in burn rate. My 270 loves it. Both accuracy and velocity. Are you able to measure your velocity and SD? If so, if your SD is over 10, try a primer with more brisance. Ie Federal 210 has more brisance than most large rifle primers without trying Magnum primers, but that’s a...

    RCBS X Die

Has anyone tested an RCBS X Die? They claim they’ve redesigned the tolerances and mandrel design so the case length will stabilize and you won’t need to trim does a second time? Sounds like an upgrade. I am using imperial wax and get a little on the case mouth, so it lubes the mandrel. I...

    Primer Question?

Magnum primer and 1 more grain of H4831 and this was the results prior to this change, H4831 was about 1.25-1.5” for groups. For reference the blue dot is 0.75”. Speed with the extra grain and mag primer, was a modest 3020fps.

    Magnum Primers with Staball?

Fun story. Chasing low SD and opened a new can of RL17 and H4831, and both took minor steps backwards. Both Stick powders. It was 27f today. I was also trying H414 ball powder, so reloaded best loads in all three with federal 215’s. The SD for RL 17 stayed at 9, and velocity was the same CCI...

    Primer Question?

I’d suggest your asking what does primer choice matter? Maybe. Group size is a measure that could suggest consistency or inconsistency in powder burn. Primers are graded by Brisance. federal and Winchester have higher Brisance than CCI and Remington (that’s a general statement.. get a chart...

    Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! A shout out to those who’ve helped me over the years! The finicky 300WSM that could never get huntable over 100 yards due to occasional fliers… is in the review mirror! It’s on its way to PAC-Nor to be rebarreled! Will spend the day with parents and sisters families (as...

    Shopping trip this morning

Went by local Walmart and in the muzzle loading section I noticed some things I’ve never seen in a Walmart before. Remington Large rifle and large rifle magnum primers! Probably over 20 boxes of 1000. Plus StaballHD and other powders. I bought a box of NBT 277 130’s for $30. Wish they had...

    270 powder

With Barnes TTSX, my 270 loved RL17. SD was 3. H4831 was the previous owners go to powder, but i was seeing SD's like 30 so set it aside for RL17. CCI primers. Using Norma Brass. Previous owner used mixed headstamps. I have some starline that I will be teaming up with Nosler BT's and...

    Hornady Cam lock puller

Have the RCBS Supreme… the camlock is difficult to use on it. Need to find an old rcbs or Lyman for pulling. Have lots of 270s made by someone else and since the boxes are not consistent,,, ie labeled Hornady Interlock 140, and I find a grand slam 150 in there… and the dude used 59 grains of...
