    Loading .270 without the rifle

I’d probably start by getting some top notch brass, ie Norma, Lapua… maybe starline if they are on a budget. I’d get some Nosler Ballistic Tips in 130 gn (assuming white tail). I found RL17 and H4831sc capable of 2-5fps for SD with starline and Norma brass in my pre64 model 70. RL17 54.1...

Nosler Solid Base bullets are back

I see Nosler Solid Base bullets are back. 6mm and 30 cal, plus some others. Solid bases were not around. Any thoughts about them for hunting bullets?

    Neck thickness

Thank you! I’m wondering if one of my expanders is Janky. I think I have 100 pieces of starline in 3030. 50 pieces are pretty good. Neck thickness is within 0.002x”. The other 50 are in various stage of being fired 1x or loaded still ( had a bake off with Nosler CTBT RN(for 3030) and some...

    Neck thickness

So my Marlin 336 XLR ( remlin micro groove) Has shot no better than 1.25” at 100 yards. I find that satisfactory, but it was difficult to get there. I think I might have found the issue/irregularity… I got the Hornady kit to measure neck thickness and I found a lot of my brass has an abrupt...

    Best Tasting Animal?

I actually got to try Mountain Lion and it was amazing. Moose is very high on my list. Have a trapper friend who eats it all and picks beaver over all!

Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Goodnight!

Merry Christmas! Ordered a Pacnor super match for my sons model 70 300 WSM with a timed muzzle brake, and I got a nice Hornady neck wall thickness gauge and two cell trail cams… Thank you to so many of you for the help obver the years!

    RCBS X Die

Truth be told, I inherited a lot of my RCBS dies and when I have trouble, I drop the coin on Redding dies. Thinking I need a forester triax at some point, but making due until then… I only hunt, so no over the top effort for competition shooting… but seems every solution to a problem takes me...

    30-06 and Varget QL please.

RL 17 is similar in burn rate. My 270 loves it. Both accuracy and velocity. Are you able to measure your velocity and SD? If so, if your SD is over 10, try a primer with more brisance. Ie Federal 210 has more brisance than most large rifle primers without trying Magnum primers, but that’s a...

    RCBS X Die

Has anyone tested an RCBS X Die? They claim they’ve redesigned the tolerances and mandrel design so the case length will stabilize and you won’t need to trim does a second time? Sounds like an upgrade. I am using imperial wax and get a little on the case mouth, so it lubes the mandrel. I...

    Primer Question?

    @100 yards

    Primer Question?

Magnum primer and 1 more grain of H4831 and this was the results prior to this change, H4831 was about 1.25-1.5” for groups. For reference the blue dot is 0.75”. Speed with the extra grain and mag primer, was a modest 3020fps.
