I believe most, if not ALL, modern firearms are OK to shoot +P ammo.
I shoot a Springfield XD45 Compact with Hornady TAP ammo with 230 grain XTP's and are rated at about 950 fps (which is +P) and it swallows it just fine.
Well done. A little proof or references were all I was asking for. Now that you have backed it up with some documentation, your word carries a little more weight. A little.
Good show.
I still disagree with you because every test I have seen is at least 25 years old and has not taken into account the newer manufacturing methods or materials. I'll take my grandad's word over yours until you prove me wrong.
Doesn't change the fact that I'm on my 12th reload of .45 ACP and 6th reload of 45-70...all with the same pieces of brass with no signs of stress or cracking.
I'm using the 300 grain Partition with 57.5 grains of AA2015 and a 22" Marlin 1895 with pretty good results for my elk load.
THIS IS A HOTTER LOAD.
As with any load, you should work up from the bottom. The low for this powder, listed in the 5th edition manual is 54.0 grains of AA2015.
Disclaimer: I rely wholly on Nosler bullets for nearly ALL of my hunting applications and know that they are among the highest of the high quality bullets on the market. However, if the one you are using does not give the penetration you desire, you might try a heavier bullet.
Try the 405 grain...
LAR is NOT out of business. They are literally a stones throw from my bedroom window.
They just don't make the .45 Win Mag any more. They do, however, make an LAR Big Bore in .50 BMG and a NICE evil black rifle in .223, I think. Can't remember the name of it though.
Anyhoo, I have been looking...
I have seen a Wildey in .45 Win Mag and it has got to be the ugliest piece I've ever laid eyes on!
I'd take an LAR Grizzly in .45 Win Mag over a Wildey ANY day of the week.
This is what the Nosler 5th edition states...
Neck Dia loaded= ?
Neck Dia unloaded= .335
OAL loaded= Max SAAMI is 3.560
OAL unloaded= 2.825
Empty case weight= ?
neck thickness= ?
Since there was SO much freebore in my Mod 70 Sporter XTR in 300 Wby, I made my OAL 3.600 with a 180 grain...
I disagree about Brasso and have used it consistently for years.
I have seen and read articles that state that in order for it (ammonia) to weaken brass, it would have to remain in an aqueous solution for quite some time. Since you are tumbling with some sort of media involved, it dries LONG...
That is my exact preferred hunting rig. And yes, the 300 grain Partition can put some serious hurt on anything on this planet and is nice and 'light' for the 45-70 Govt.
