I may have posted this a few years ago but given a neighbor just lost some goats to a mountain lion it seemed timely. The hunter is a family acquaintance and otherwise all I know is he was the hunter. Cat was killed about 3 miles from the house.

That is a massive Tom! They're still the only animal in the woods that scare me...I've ever only seen a glimpse of one on a ridge before sunrise up N Fork Umatilla. I'm sure many more have seen me!

If I recall correctly, they average a deer a week...
But cougars are known for going on killing sprees...as some sheep farmers can attest to.
Makes one wonder if that occurs on wild prey too...but as they are not usually in pens probably doesn't occur as frequently...

I once heard that a mountain lion averages a deer kill every three days, but I have no information to back that up. At either rate, it adds up to a pile of deer and other animals.
