Good morning, I just picked up a Ruger Hawkeye in 257 Roberts and it's a great looking rifle. I'm have a Bushnell Elite 4200 in 3X9. Very clear scope and the total set up looks great. Anyway, I have about 150 Hornady 117 SPBT Interlocks and can't find any data with H4350 The Hodgdon website doesn't have H4350 listed as a suitable powder but just from reading it is a good powder for the Roberts. Does any use this combination in their Roberts? I have Nosler brass and Federal 210 primers, I also have RE16 but have much more H4350. Thank you.

I do not use that combo. I've found H 4831 and Reloder 22 are the key to the Roberts.

When I started reloading for the Robert's back in 1982, I found a load in a very old Pacific reloading manual for 117 gr bullet and 47grs of H-4831. It was way more velocity (2900 fps) than any load in any manual. I gave it a try and it shot really small groups with the 117 Sierra. I later gained access to a chronograph and found the velocity was 2980 fps. (24" barrel) I got brave and loaded up gradually to 48 grs and ended up at 3060 fps. That's as much powder as the case would hold. My brother in law had a Oehler with the cards you had ro shoot through and turn some dials to get the digits for velocity.

I have reload data from QuickLoad for the 115 gr Ballistic Tip with H and IMR-4831, using F210M primers and Winchester cases, w/ max pressures of 65K psi in a 22" barrel at:
  • H-4831: max of 48.2 gr for 3015 fps
  • IMR-4831: max of 45.4 gr for 3024 fps
I have yet to try them. But I will be loading up to these in half grain increments to see how they perform in my rifle.

As a note, H-4350: max of 45.1 gr for 2990 fps

Thanks again for the replies. I'm going to start loading tonight and I'll post my results after I shoot. I have a modified case and I'm finding out the rifle is short throated. I don't have the exact number yet but I know the cannelure on the interlocks is inside the neck when it's into the lands. Thanks again.

I got to shoot the rifle today with mostly breaking it in. It shot fairly well meaning about 1.5" at 100 yards. I'm using H4350 and 117 gr Hornady SPBT's and I'm pretty sure it will do better. Very little recoil and it's a pleasure to shoot. Thanks for you help.
