Today I tried out my Garmin Xero. Well I did have issues picking up shots. There might be limitations on how it works in different bench setups. I’m shooting thru an insulated tube inside another tube I made to dampen noise. The inside diameter is 14” and the suspended gases from the muzzle might be affecting its ability to record the shot. I found raising it to the barrel height helped.

When it works it’s nice to see what each shot does. Sample from my 375 Wby

Hmm, with no tubes or baffles involved the Garmin works great. Handgun, rifle, near or far... no problem. Likely the easiest to operate chronograph I've ever used.

I could not agree more Guy. It is an essential tool in my range bag. It is a huge safety plus for any reloader also of course. And Just.Plain.Fun!

Do not overlook the athlon. That is what I settled on. Faster to pick up and register velocities. Also will pick up the speed of a hand thrown stick !!!!

Of course that is all academic but the lower price is indeed a big pro.

didn't know anything about this brand, or this model. features and price sure look good though (y)

The garmin or the athlon?
sorry i edited my post to be more clear....i had never heard of athlon before...after watching that woman's above review, I think I would save $200 and buy the Athlon!

I love my Garmin xero! It goes along with me and the rest of my gear for every range. I’ve used it for pistols and rifles - I have had zero shots not picked up out of 100’s of shots recorded. It flat out works.

I also appreciate how user friendly it is to setup and use. My first and only other chronograph is the Caldwell G2. Nothing ‘wrong’ with the Caldwell data I have found but I’ll never go back to the Caldwell. Not hating on Caldwell at all. It is dated and has some years on it but has got me to where I’m at now so I can’t talk down on it.

Every reloader should have a good and reliable chronograph, even just to solely confirm velocities - the Garmin does just that. I have no personal experience with the Athlon, looks like it will hit a home run as well. Awesome to have devices and equipment on the market that do their job.
