2026 Rifle Plans

My budget will determine how many of these I am able to acquire this year. Likely one or two, but I'd like to expand my collection with the following:

1. .17 HMR bolt action to replace my 22lr.
2. 6.8 Western, 7 inch twist factory Browning rifle.
3. A compact and threaded factory 7mm Backcountry rifle.
4. 308 Norma Magnum, custom rifle, or if I find a desirable used one.
5. 378 Weatherby Magnum in a Weatherby dangerous game rifle.
6. Want to replace my .410 bolt action with a side by side.
7. A 404 Jeffrey custom or desirable used one. More of a long term goal.

All of the rifles I own have iron sights on them and no scope but I think if I get a 6.8 Western or 7mm Backcountry, I'll pair them with high quality short range scopes. I think a scope will work for my desired close range hunting because sometimes visibility is poor even close range due to things like fog, dust, shrubs, and uneven terrain. Plus a scope will allow me to view my backstop more clearly.

Well here we go...
I had forgotten when I first posted in this thread that I had posted in the Christmas WIshlist thread, that I had ordered the following rifle through the LGS before Christmas...

The friend who has sent me this link, received a notification yesterday from a gun store in New Brunswick, that they had these 5 of these limited production rifles coming in. Checking with the LGS, got me no information that they have even been able to source one for me yet...will cancel that order.

I have just purchased one from the NB gun store!
They are supposed to arrive on the 23rd, and mine will be shipped out to me shortly thereafter! Barring any postal issues, I should have it approximately 6 days after that.

Looking forward to it as I have not yet had the chance to even handle a Ruger made Marlin yet.
I do hope that they will issue a 41 Rem Mag at some point in the future!

Pending the resale value of a few other things (see other post) and my level of weakness....CL

Also a .223 Remington single shot survival rifle. 😁

My Marlin 1894 Trapper in 10MM arrived!
Really like the dark pepper laminated stock.
Weighs 6 lbs 6 oz as is.
Looking forward to shooting it when it gets warmer in the spring and we can get some new target stands out on the range for 25 and 75 yards to try it out alongside the Kimber, and use the Garmin to chrony the various factory loads in both guns.

Very nice Gil, congratulations! That Marlin 1884 Trapper is a sharp looking rig and I rather imagine it will be a fun one to carry and shoot

Already bought a S&W Sheild X, but for rifles plan on one of the new Savage Core Hunter Pros in 6.8 Western. I am not an AR guy, but plan on getting one in 26. Something fun to shoot with son vs all my hunting rifles

Nice! I like that.
What is the estimated velocity and from what bullet?

Here's links for some magazine reviews:

There are a number of Youtube videos reviewing the performance of various loads in the Marlin, and comparing to the 5" pistols.

I was wasting time yesterday at my LFS. One of the guys in there showed me a new Savage 110 Ultralight and said he thought I would like it. I have not been much of a Savage fan the last few years mostly due to other people's guns that I have toyed with. I do not like the Accutrigger at all either. This one has my interest. The biggest piece, it came factory with a Proof carbon barrel.

Do any of you happen to own one with the proof barrel, can give me some real world insight on accuracy and shoot ability? For what it is, this gun is cheap and while it wasn't on my radar at all (I'm still waiting for more folks to buy and shoot the 7 backcountry so I can buy one after ample experience is out there and the first person reviews start coming in haha) I may grab one and swap the trigger as well as the stock out.
