Thank you Dr. Mike.

I asked my PH if he had any issue with me using my 375#1 for Cape Buffalo. He wants me to practice reloading speed and to use swift A frames. I have a good load with RL 15 and Nosler’s but I only have 1/2 pound of powder left. The Vihtivori powders get good speed. At the moment I can’t find any 300 gr. Swift A Frames.

I’ve been looking for 300 gr AFrames myself and they are nonexistent. North Fork and Trophy Bonded Bear Claws are also unavailable.
Barnes TSX isn’t a bad choice and they’re available.

It took 85grs of N555 to break 2600fps behind the Hornady 300gr BTSP in my 375 Wby. N555 seams a little bulky and a slow burner in that case.

Good intel, thanks I saw Vihtivori showed it for the Barnes tsx but not the Swift. Have you used 540?

300 gr tsx is second choice with my PH, partitions third. I’ve 50 weeks to get it figured out:) I have tsx on the way and I’m shooting some Partitions and Accubonds tomorrow.

I have not tried 540. Most powders I use are around the RL-17. I know JD has had good luck with Sta-BALL 6.5 in his 375. Hodgdon list it at the top with the 300gr Swift.

Took some 300 gr partitions to the range loaded with 68 gr RL 15, Replaced the old 1.5 x4 vx11 with a not so old vx3 1.5x5 I had on a Ruger 10/22. Took a couple of shots to get it a little closer then got serious, Point of aim was the lower target in the picture. First two went high. Took a few clicks got the second two pretty close. 3 or 4 more clicks, I’m done with zero. I just wish my PH loved Partitions. :)
With a velocity of 2480 I’m less than 1/2 inch high at 50, dead zero at 100; 1 MOA at 150; 2.5 moa at 200; touch over 4 MOA at 250 and right at 6 MOA at 300. I hung a sheet of butcher paper at 300 yards and put a bulls eye target right at the top. Fired two shots, both landed about 18 inches below the target using the 100 yard zero. May not be prairie dog accurate but certainly Kudu accurate. Wouldn’t shoot at a Cape Buffalo that far away.
I thought about taking some 260s with me for the ever present Kudu in the area we will be hunting. Decided not to do that as the 260s print 6 inches higher running 2780fps. The scope on there now does not have cds. Think I’ll put it back on the 22 and order up a vx3hd cds. If I need to shoot 300 I’ll just crank her up.

Good shooting! I haven't seen any RL-15 in a long doggone time. :( However I've found that Varget works really well instead. And of course there's always good ol' H4350 which can shove a 300 gr bullet at 2500+ fps just fine.

Guy

I've plenty of H4350 and just about done with 15. There is a can at my local gun store but I won't pay 85.00 us.
I fired right at 1000 rounds with my 300 getting ready for my recent hunt, 5% of those off the bench. I'm not sure I'll pull the trigger that many times with the 375👍😁
